Unless you actually work with them as players, or know them personally, it's difficult to say whether they'd be good coaches just on the basis of what they play like.
I agree with you, that said I reckon David Preece would make a decent coach. Watched him a few times in the reserves, he's a very commanding presence, and the young players seem to respect his judgement and take advice from him, particularly the defensive players. Watched him against Bradford last season and he was constantly giving his back 4 feedback throughout, they adjusted to how he read the game, and stood resolute against 2 experienced Bradford strikers, who were first teamers trying to get back to fitness. However he seems destined on a career in journalism, good luck to him.
You only wanted him as manager so he wouldn't pick himself to play. Anyway I'm sure you'll agree he's playing as well as ever this season so he's likely to be in the team for a while yet.
