Be nice if we had some reserve fixtures to get him up to speed

Same for the rest of the injured players.

The reserve league isn't the only way to play uncompetitive matches jay and it's also past it's sell by date.

80% of the matches are 90% youth team players on either side and when you are playing against Rotherham youth then even for Barnsley academy lads its like playing a conference team against a champ team with them been a COE. Barnsley beat them 7-0/1 last season for example, just not worth it.

The better option is to play behind close doors games which will allow you to play any players that need games and also allow you to see some of the younger players without the club been tired in to a fixture list which affects the u18's as they can't cope with Saturday Tuesday almost ever week.

Doncaster played Monday or Tuesday last week against chesterfield and on Friday against Manchester united reserves as they aren't in the reserve league either.

Will always think that games within a league or a cup competition will mean more to a player and you will probably get more out of them than playing last minute friendlies.

Not really as they don't play in them regularly.

Most players just think about them in the games too. They just want to get fit or want to get in to first 20 ect.

No Team in me is the reserve look on it for pro's.

And how many behind closed doors friendlies have we played this season?

How many did we play last time we dissolved the reserve team?

When a central body organises a fixture list, produces a timetable and provides a referee then those fixtures get played. When clubs have to organise them themselves and actually find a club who are willing to play them, invariably nothing gets done.

they played 11 times home and away jay i think but some teams pulled out (wednesday for one).

from what i understand jay its not that hard to get a game on with no fans and the clubs still do it anyone even when they are in res cups.

barnsley first saw anderdon de silva in one of them games for example.

also there an agreement between a load of sides.

Absolute joke that we aren't playing reserve fixtures. How on earth our young uns going to get experiance if they only play on fields against other u18's and whats our players going to do when they cant play under 18 football. No wonder Vaz Te was stretchered off with cramp the other week. Also we had to play our young uns on the main Oakwell pitch so they get experiance playing in proper stadiums. Cant get my breath

There aren't enough players available to play any reserves. We have only just managed to field a 1st team so far this season, so who would play in said reserve fixtures??
Don't get me wrong, I would like to see some regular reserve/friendly games to keep the fringe players match-fit, to aid the recovery of players returning from injury, and to give the youths experience.
But we don't have the bodies and so we are in catch 22. Even with a fully-fit squad - we have named 27 players so far on matchdays - we are stretched.
Maybe if/when the injuries clear, Hillcroft will arrange more friendlies. Although tbh, I expect he will loan the fringe players out. Potter, Taylor and JayMac have already been made available, so yeah, thats a better way of keeping em match-sharp. Unless like Kern Miller they can't get a game and instead ponce around niteclubs looking for trouble..

sorry mate there is absolutly no excuse for not having a reserve team. Not enough players? last year when we were a bit short we played a couple of trialists Sousa was one I think Digby Rose and Clark should be playing in a competative league like they have done since under 5s. After this season Clarke and Rose will be too old for u18 then what? The odd behind closed doors friendly noone knows about sounds like a training session to me.
