Barnsley have put up their prices but will be bringing in less money than last year Higher admission, fewer fans, smaller profits. Twenty is plenty. More than plenty as far as I'm concerned, but if they charged that much for the top matches it would be OK.
thats not a fair comparison becuase we've not played the same teams. aka bolton are 20th in epl but we all know there not anywhere near close.
Re: Barnsley have put up their prices but will be bringing in less money than last ye There must be a reason why the club are charging 50% more then. It might be down to greed but if it is it will be the greed of the players not the club.
if you don't have a season ticket, and you don't have a club 1912 pass, are you really bothered about saving money ?, and what's more are you really bothered about watching Barnsley Football Club ?, I can not for the life of me understand why if you where so bothered about watching BFC you don't make it as cheap as possible to do so, unless you only intend to go to a few games each season in that case shut up moaning about every game, or are the people of Barnsley just plain thick ?
Jay football ticket prices are too expensive in the UK full stop, but until player wages become realistic, I cannot see ticket prices falling. I think the 1912 offer is a good one, I am also pleased to see the offer from the club. Barnsley have to compete with the rest of league and unfortunately the prices set are needed for the clubs budget.
So they are the best sides in the league? Why's everyone going cuckoo on 'ere? Have all the birds fallen off the roof tonight?
at this moment in time is what matters, and at this moment in time Boro and saints are the best in the league and Bristol are the worst
Do you honestly believe this Owen or is this just the 'company line' on behalf of the Trust? By every possible measure you could think of the Bristol City game should be Category C. It's no more attractive than the Watford game and the away following will be similar. Consequently, they're charging £53 for two games which should have cost £46 if they'd applied any logic to the category system in the first place. I was quite encouraged when I saw 'ticket prices reduced for the Hull game' splashed on Facebook, but in reality its a half-arsed attempt to reduce the cost of the Bristol City game, without trying to make it look like such, because obviously this would mean the club admitting they got it wrong in the first place. I'm not in the least bit surprised that people don't seem overwhelmed with this offer. It's been structured in a way that it's virtually nailed-on that there won't be a great take-up for this so the club can then turn around and say 'well we reduced prices again but there wasn't a big impact'. I would really like to know exactly what take up the club have forecast this deal to have? Perhaps someone could ask the question at the next Trust meeting with them, because I can't envisage a scenario where people sat round a table, came up with this and thought 'that's a great idea' compared to any number of alternatives relating to the Bristol City game in particular.
Bang on pal. We've just been discussing this ere on our coffee break. It seems that the club - and some supporters - have really short memories. Either that or the club think we are total f*cknuts. This particular fixture, Bristol at Oakwell, was played just 6 months or so ago, and was designated CATEGORY C, priced at £16. So what the flying f*ck has happened in half a year that necessitated doubling the cost of watching said fixture?? Its outrageous. Yes the club dont decide on the fixture list, but they certainly decided which team was designated which category. And so some numpty sat down and felt that back to back CAT A games against 2 clubs who are neither crowd-pullers, or bring big away followings, was a fantastic idea. I now take it that the same numpty then said to another numpty, "we'll cut the prices by saying if you go to this game, we'll charge less for t'other.. but we are doubling 1 of em anyway so basically the silly barstewards will think we are listening yet in reality, we are sticking the knife in again! and get ready next season when we do away with the category system and give them the flat rate they keep calling for... we've even dreamt up a slogan already for it... its called fourty is naughty! hahahaha, good one eh Donald? Pass me the pimms.." Im sorry BFC, but Im glad Im a ST holder because there is no way I will ever pay more than 20 for a league game at Oakwell. I hate paying out my arse for cup games and away days, but we are garbage in the former, and work limits my away trips. And I dont buy the player wages excuse either. Not entirely anyway. Its a clubs decision how much to pay its employees, they arent forced. Some might say (TUNE) that we HAVE to pay em to compete. But thats bullshine. And anyway, we hardly have a squad of high-earners. Id guess we've reduced our wage-bill by at least a third this year. So why the hell did they shaft the fanbase again? Saying all this, some folk will agree with what theyve done. Ive read somewhere in this thread at least 2 fans saying that just under 50 quid for 2 games of football in the space of a few days is GOOD VALUE and should be applauded!? Jeez. I dont care how rich you are, twenty is plenty is bang on. Id like to say well done BFC. But I wont. You cant put prices massively up, then drop em slightly and expect any credit. God only knows what would happen if we went down and the prices stayed the same (theyd make a big deal of a price freeze no doubt). Thank god I have a ST.. but if this ere job goes...?? Oh yeah, work. Forgot I was working, for £7.50 an hour! Oh to be a footballer...
Re: Barnsley have put up their prices but will be bringing in less money than last ye I agree £20 is more than enough for any football match but unfortunately the way things stand we can't afford this. We could charge £15 a game on the gate but we would inevitably be playing in one of the lower leagues as a consequence of lowering the available budget for players wages. The higher category prices are there to maximise the away revenue. I have my reservations as to the effect a £30 tickets has on away attendances also but this is something Im sure the club are monitoring. Ideally Barnsley fans should purchase a season ticket or Oakwell 1912 membership to enable them to see matches at the best prices. I think this should be further extended so 1912 members can buy tickets for more than one person and that season tickets holders can buy say up to 4 tickets at Oakwell @ 1912 prices so as to be able to persuade the casual family member/stayaway. I think the core fan base probably are already doing one or the other of these. Until something is done with regards players wages we are going to struggle to get to the reality of a £20 walk in ticket for all games.
Re: Football is so over priced that it has sent people mental You are right. The club are trying to operate within the parameters of a crazy system where footballers are paid stupid, stupid wages. I know the club have supported the notion of a wages cap. Quite why some of the other championship clubs dont support this is beyond me. Something has to happen though as people are walking away and not just at Barnsley. In the mean time the club have to try and keep us afloat and trying to compete in this divsion. It's a big ask!
The 1912 offer is a good one, if it was marketed, but virtually all summer it was stuck to the bottom of the ST advert. At least the club nearly got it right for this one, nearly got it right mind.
Well having read all the your points of view (most of em rubbish!) i have to say the whole thing of having to make at least two trips to jokewell to get a ticket and then turn up for the match later, will indeed put a load of people off. Why don't they keep the box office well staffed and let Bristol City stub holders turn up for the Hull match and get their discounted ticket from the box office and then go in the match. I understand why you cannot get discount on the actual turnstile as the money / tickets would be a nightmare to match up and clearly some of the muppets who work in the turnstiles are simply not up to this mathematical conundrum! (you could replace all the turnstile staff with people that can do a bit of maths but that would not really be worth it for one game!) But making people visit the ground twice to watch one match is just not going to work. When Don Rowing walks away from this shambles (or is sacked)...i will willingly sort out this mess for the club (if i am paid accordingly). It's not rocket science folks but then again I don't for one minute think some of the clowns on here will get it either. I hope this helps
Re: Football is so over priced that it has sent people mental I couldn't agree more ! I think my season ticket is reasonable value at about £13 a match but if I was expected to pay £25 or £30 I wouldn't go. We have a wages bill of around £6- £7m a season, when we were promoted in 96/97 it was £2.6m if I remember correctly. How can such a rise in wages be justified ? I know that if we are to 'compete' in this division then we supposedly have to pay the going rate, but the going rate is far too high. All credit to KH who seems to be trying to build a team as opposed to buy one. Take note Sven... £5m for Matt Mills.
