What is the single biggest reason why this BBS is dying?

Personally I don't like the new format - I much preferred the ease of use and look of the old one - especially the nested view which I don't think you can have now.

Also, the place is full of posters that I have no interest in reading.

Finally, it's too politically correct and po-faced. Little opportunity to take the mickey, swear or generally mess about, which is what the most of the old posters generally did......

No sleight on site Admin team as they are doing their best for no money/thanks, but it's not the same. It's like when Kiss pirate radio went corporate, ruined it.

Needs Hinchcliff, TFP, *****, Hartog, mrx, Blackadder etc all back on a regular basis.

Oh, and I don't mind Hemsworth at all, posts some interesting views sometimes.

 

Err dare I had that the fact of a really good sensible debate no longer seems possible, it just usually ends up turning abusive and name calling.

 

To answer properly:

1. It's not as funny any more. I remember posting on .net when I was 13 and ****ing misen. Dirk's set might have been called c u n t s and 'cliquey' but it was funny. It's not on 'ere now. You've got boring men trying to ridicule Hemsworth with every post. He gets on my **** (you know you get on mosts people's, mate) but to let him wind you up like some do? Barmy.

2. Football's w a n k

3. New format's not very nice.

4. The f c k I n g c u n t in g swear filter.

5. People looking for arguments consistently. Or taking what is pure micky taking or 'banter' as offensive. Grow a pair.

I'm going to find this difficult without being portrayed as a hypocrite by some of the older posters but here we go!

Although i may not be considered a 'key' contributor (most will probably not even care that i no longer post) one of the main reasons i decided to back away was down to some of the more frequent posters at the time. I won't be naming names though as there was more than one and they're entitled to post what they like on here. It just wasn't for me anymore and thats why i now only view the site every couple of days or so. Its enough at the moment, i can read every post in those days within 10 minutes.

There are other reasons (mainly health, having at the age of 28 just had a permanent pacemaker fitted after discovering i had a heart block) but contributors certainly have been a factor.

The hypocrite thing comes from the fact that many years ago as a teenager i know i'll have ruined many a persons enjoyment on the old BBS with my constant postings and ruining of threads with LDRed. I can honestly say i now know what that must have felt like.

The BBS wont ever change. People will go and new people will join. I'm sure it will pick up again. Hopefully off the back of some success with the team and Gally's continued brilliant work with the new site.

Replaced by bland, irritating, sky sports repeating, happy clapper/doom monger (delete where applicable) posters who wouldn't know what banter was if it came up and smashed them in the face with a shovel, that have turned this board into dullsville.

The hartog set, Wendy, tfp, etc annoyed the sh it out of me at times, but they kept this place interesting with their banter and pilloc king about.

Nowadays if you haven't got a degree in jeff stellingisms, you might as well forget it on here.

Its 100% categorically down to the format and the platform

In my place of work (Barnsleys largest employer) we are, due to corporate inertia, stuck on IE7 and the new BBS takes sometimes 30 seconds to load and once fully loaded, moving the verticle scroll bar is and fiddly and tempermental ****ing frustrating. Ive broken 2 mice and had countless stares across the office. The old board was lightening, simple to use and very very easy to post and read. If my developer had done this to my site he'd get a proper ****ing.

At home, 20MG etherneted broadband and its marginally better, my username and password doesnt work with Google Chrome but Im posting this (I hope) via "Go Advanced" option (wtf??) in threaded view and after hitting the Submit Reply I expect to see egg timer for a while and then battle my way back to the thread.

I understand this board is run on goodwill and someone putting their hand in their own pocket, but the previous board was fine, the server or ISP just needed a kick and if we had an annual whip round Im certain there would be enough collective goodwill to find the coin to keep it going.

Or does it suit the clubs purpose that everyone is deserting?

is that why the old site was replaced? if so, great shame - I would have been more than happy to throw a few quid in. Its a mixture really - the site misses tfp on a regular basis, Dirk Hartog, John Dillinger, ***** and a few others but this new format has absolutely killed it. Its really user unfriendly. I totally appreciate the effort put in by those that run it but if it is at all possible to revert back to the old format then it should be done in a flash. It just needs to be easy to read posts and post messages, thats all it needs to do.
