quoted nonesense, if what means the footballer/s with second jobs it was in the Sunday mirror (could have been a Oliver Holt piece but not sure.)

If you mean the 52k spl average then thats what GS said, former celtic manager.

I refuse to become embroiled in an argument with someone who prefers to quote the Mirror over using their own brains and experience.
The phrase "grow up, get a life" is not meant to offend you Phil, its advice. Get a job, pay bills (such as your own sky subs) and generally EXPERIENCE life. It will give you some much-needed clarity on a lot of these topics.
As thereev would say, hope this helps. ;)

Players are earning more than their clubs can afford to pay, and that's why football is going down the toilet.

Barnsley's wages in the accounts £7m. Say 40 employees, then a simple average would be £175,000 pa. If you skew this to factor out the lower earners then at a guess I'd imagine that the first team squad were over £200,000 a year. And we're a small club, imagine what some championship clubs are paying.

I haven't got the accounts in front of me but IIRC Mr Cryne had to sub the club to the tune of 3m. I'll get back to you when I find the accounts out.

Does that include money from prem, football league sky ect?
    Because 6500000 seems low.

Once again you prove yourself to be an idiot

Or an arrogant bellend that chooses not to read peoples posts. Either way allow me to point out that the average at best footballers who play in the second tier (and before that the third and fourth tiers) at Barnsley are NOT the top 1% of earners in the footballing industry. Not exactly hard to understand is it?

Also your family member on over 100k per year is NOT the average working man. When you grow up and get a job you'll understand that.

He's just given you the figure from what i imagine is the accounts that are filed with companies house - it includes everything (hence it being called turnover)

The average wage in England per annum is around the 20k mark. It could be suggested that with the north south divide its actually far lower in places like well Barnsley for example closer to shall we say 13/14 given what i see advertised while out and about taking home closer to the 10k a year mark. We'll call it 10 for ease of math.
Rightmove suggest the average rental price in Barnsley is around the 400 mark per month. So thats 4800 per annum. a 1000 for council tax. 1000 a year travel costs say for working in sheffield and going by public transport. Shall we say 40 a week on food. thats another 2 grand. Doesnt leave a lot thats what the average man in the street has to live with.

Jacob buttercup will earn best part of that in a month until he is 35

As for this driving around in shiney cars. YOu understand what hire purchase means dont you?

We taken enough cars off people to know how over streched thier finances are. Footballers do not live in the real world. they live in a world motivated by greed and how much money they can extort.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.
Excellent post, but agree with Jay's point about the conclusion. I think clubs such as ours can lead the way with more sensible 'per game' pricing structures.

    Exactly

When ar wor a lad.......as they say, just about all my mates at school went to a footy match regularly. Most went to Oakwell but a few numpties went to Sheffield or Leeds. Hardly any ventured across the Pennines.

Nowadays I go out regularly with mates or all ages (20 - 60) from all walks of life. Hardly any of them go to matches, whether at Oakwell or wherever. I reckon it's less than 5% of the lads I know, as a kid it was probably 80% or so.

The reason is obvious. It's too bloody expensive. By a country mile. A school kid should be able to afford to pay on the day at a Barnsley match out of his pocket money. If he can't it's too expensive.

People complain (and rightly so) about the prices at Oakwell but it's the same everywhere. £36 at L***s FFS! We are only trying desperately to compete with others at our level. Soon someone will have to say to the agents in contract talks "No, this is what's on offer, take it or f*** off". If that doesn't happen soon, crowds will dwindle even more and football at our level will die.

    Summary: IT'S TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE.

Sorry, don't want to argue, but anyway here goes.....

    IT'S TOO BLOODY EXPENSIVE!

Twleve quid for a young teenager to go to a football match??? You must be kidding if you think that's cheap. Where do school kids get that sort of money from?

In case it helps, one of us is probably wrong.

If it's me, there should be hundreds of school kids flocking to Oakwell all the time for every home match.

If it's you, then crowds should be falling and the ground will be half empty.
