Re: to be fair, giorthee and thereev are fantastic wingmen for him

just personal opinions, but the reason why I read only most of the time now, even though I've never been a prolific poster, is that:

    a. as the number of posters falls off, more and more the board seems to be dominated only by a number of people that you get the impression know each other in real life, and it sometimes seems as though to post something is to butt in on someone's private conversation, like a sad old b'stard trying to be trendy butting in on a group of mates talking in the pub.

    b. This reinforces the long held view that the board is really cliquey. You see a post that appears to come from a person you'd have a conversation with in the pub, and it gets no responses at all. Then the next post will be about f a r t ing or something equally puerile and it will attract pages of responses. As someone else said, I equate it to whether I would have a pint with someone in the pub and most posters post such drivel I can't be arsed to waste my life on it.

    c. I am sure that the format of the board has had an effect - I prefer this format as the old one got so slow the speed itself was driving me away - I could watch half of a programme on telly trying to read 2 threads. However, so many people mention their hating of the new format that there must be something in it.

    Bit harsh on Phil

He's hardwork at times, but not on par with a handful of others, especially Mr Multiple ID.
Im hardwork for some. As are we all. Its a forum, not a love-in.
Yes 10 years ago it was a very busier, funnier and different bbs, but sh*t happens. If you dont like it, then change it for the better. Things always seem better when looking back, its scientific fact.
I think we should get back to the bantering, jokey, carefree bbs with funny pics, stories and articles.
I used to like the old board where someone would post a thread and the subject would just be a name. For instance, John Smith. And then you'd get a reply like Guinness, Fosters, Stella Artois and so on.. it seems simple, sad even, but it always made me smile and even that has died out.
Like I say, it is what it is, and whatever we want it to be.

It nobbled the radio star. Don't be a naive muppet and think it wouldn't strike again. It was biding its time all along, waiting for HD...

I honestly think the new format has a lot to do with it.

Before, threads were easier to identify and banter and debate was much, much easier to ignite with other users. Now, the new site offers a lot more updated features but in my opinion is clunky, discombobulated and overall, nowhere near as good as the old site.

That, and I get a lot less chance to come on here anyway so coupled with the reasons above, it doesn't make a good equation.

Intolerance of other people's views, an unwillingness to accept that people are allowed to view and interpret issues differently without being 'wrong', unnecessary personal abuse, very little fun or banter nowadays.

I agree, banter turned into bitterness. I stopped posting as the personal abuse was getting out of control. Always loved heated debates, the BBS used to be full of em but the hatred started creeping in. Once the anger filled users took over the fun stopped.

Used to be hilarious on the BBS.

We were asked for our opinions and I gave mine. If you feel that there's no difference between attitudes on this version and the other other, fine. I don't share your view.

You and I sometimes held differing opinions on various subjects, but I always enjoyed the sparring. It never became personal, it could be humourous and was always respectful. That doesn't seem to be the norm now.

I just remember the acrimony when the club was in administration, plus a whole host of posters who were happy to dish out stick and drop people in the **** (oh how we miss them, not). To be fair there were definately more intelligent and funny back then though, this one has a different age range on it (as far as i can tell) which i think people forget to take into consideration when replying to peoples posts. I know you're an old tw@t, so i take it into consideration ;)

I think the problem is down to the format,it used to be basic and quick to post. There has always been intolerance, personal abuse, threats, storking etc......the current levels of animosity is a drop in the ocean to what used to go off

    Love your spelling of storking

Surreptitiously following someone while standing on one leg and trying to ram a stork up their arse.

Abuse & intolerance is the norm now. In my opinion, it was the exception rather than than the rule on the old BBS. At least there was humour and banter previously. Sadly, these seem to be lacking.
On the other hand, I could be completely wrong and the clever and insightful humour may be going completely over my head due to my ignorance and narrow mindedness.

It always ends up with somebody stuffing someting up someones arse with you Jay.

There, back to pointless personal abuse, dry loving, and narrow mindedness in one fell swoop. Back on track. :p Not to mention gratuitous use of emoticons.

Hemsworth Tyke isn't the reason for my increasingly infrequent visits to this site

I've had my debates with Hemsworth in the past, to the point where i've been tearing my hair out, but I don't believe he is killing this forum, he's one of the few people in my opinion who's giving decent imput to this site.

The wind up's put me off, there's just nothing original worth coming on here for, because it's got very repetitive.

Lack of activity at Oakwell has contributed to me not visiting often too.
