I went to see that film with my first proper girlfriend......loved it ever since..... pity about the girlfriend!!!
I always wanted to be a footballer, preferably with Barnsley but didn't quite make the grade. After that I was never too sure, I love active jobs but never seem to find any with decent pay. Had an interview today though, let's see what comes of it!
How did you know what job it was for? Are you sure you didn't want to be a psychic when growing up? Cheers Kev, hopefully I'll have done enough - but if not I'll just carry on as usual.
Talking about jobs I need a pipefitters mate for a couple of weeks, must have site safety passport PM if anyone knows of anyone
Wanted to be a footballer, didn't make it. Have worked in shops, in pubs, as an electrician, in factories, in finance, and now work in the legal sector. Other than football I didn't know what I wanted to do so I guess I have fulfilled my remit (I still don't know), I may be due another career move soon.
Obvious answer.. When I was a nipper, I wanted to be a footballer or an astronaut. Never got near being the latter. But I played football thru school, for Wath Comp; played for the Falcons up to my teens; and after failing to get taken on after trials at Oakwell, and Forest (Falcons nursery club thingybob - Mark Crossley was there), I did my knee in during a training session at... wait for it... the mighty Worsbro Bridge! Only ever played 10 mins against Parkgate away as a sub. I was never good enough tbh, despite winning all the awards as a kid. My body is made of glass too. After nearly a year recuperating at 17, I decided I wanted to be a sports journo. But to do that I had to do a 3 year Media course at Barnsley College. However, in my 2nd year I became disillusioned with it. Grew tired of being skint and living at home and was offered work installing Sky etc. And since then, 10 year back, Ive worked for little more than NMW in a variety of mundane jobs, mainly factory work. Should have stuck it out at college and gone to Uni. A good friend of mine did that, on the same course I sacked off, and he is now a sports writer for the New York Times, amongst other things. Sweet.
Always wanted to join the police. I joined last year Couldn't be happier, 75% is as good as I expected. The rest... not so much.
Mind me asking how old you are mate? Always had you down as younger than me and never thought I was old enough to join! I've always thought about joining but it'd be a bit of a drop in wages for the first couple of years - still keep my eyes open for vacancies though.
I'm 21 mate. Applied when I was 18, started when I was 19. I was unusually young, however I wouldn't ever let it put anyone off applying. I never really expected to be accepted first time.
Are you Barnsley based? Or Rov'rum, Sheff etc? Always really fancied it as a career, just never seen any vacancies! I'll keep my eyes open. Ta.
I work Rotherham, you get told where you're going to work now. Yeh keep your eyes open, they have said they've frozen recruitment for the next 3/4 years. However it's always subject to change.
