Re: Go back to the old format please

I'll happily give a few quid to keep the BBS going.

I don't really care what format it's in.

But, the speeds that we ended up with in the old incarnation, I think put more people off.

Of course, what the board needs more than anything, is good banter, not folk slagging each other off.

Good humour, well written and good discussion/arguments, then we can do it on slate tablets for all I care.

A good run int he league with exciting football will also help of course, then we can stop slagging each other off and start oohing and aaahing at the skill of Perkins and Butterball and arguing if Gray will get 20 or 25 for the season.

This sounds like a local issue.

Possibly at work it could be firewalls blocking aspects - facebook plugins etc?

Visit vbulletin.com and browse the forum there - do you experience the same issues?

    Never go back, no regrets.

This BBS needs a publicity campaign.

Get some of the good uns back and get some news uns onboard.

From a personal perspective the one big problem is the failure of threads....

...to turn green (which seems to be the general consensus) when we have read them making following long threads difficult to follow and navigate especially as there are no 'handles' on the individual panes to resize.

If the problem of red-green can be fixed so it works for all then it will go a long way to making the site much more usable.

FYI I have nothing out of the ordinary...i.e. Samsung NP R780H Notebook Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64 bit) , browser IE9 v9.0.8112

Re: If anyone wants to netmeeting onto my machine

I use the standard view as i dislike the old one, but i tried it just to see what the speed was like and it seemed to be fine. I have no problems on the two computers i view the forum on. This one is using:

    Mozilla 3.5.2 (released August 2009)
    Intel Pentium 2Ghz - 3Gb RAM

Thread Display Mode: Threaded (when i tried it this was the only thing i changed in the settings)

Maybe if Gally see's this it might help some? : https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/343734-How-To-Speed-Up-Your-Forums!-vBulletin-4!

Why not run both? Then see which one is better used. I'd chip in for the old one to return...

I'm one of the few people on here who actually likes this site. I don't have any problems with it all. I use Linear Mode and it's worked fine.

Re: Go back to the old format please

I couldn't really give a stuff about which format we use. I've been a regular of the BBS in its many incantations since ~1996. It's not as humerous as it once was, there's less banter, less witty posts, there is an undercurrent of petty oneupmanship in many posts and it's just not as much fun as it used to be. That said, I now have a family, I have loads more responsibility at work too and my priorities have changed. Perhaps it's still ace and it's just a load of us old people who can't let go, desperately clinging onto our youth who think it's pants. I was funny once.

My thoughts exactly. I do feel sympathy for such as S.M who is having problems accessing it, but I can only speak for myself, and yeah, Im with Fired. Not WITH her in a literal sense, I chuffin hate camping! ;D

Thank you, I'll take that as a compliment. You're like the peanuts on posh bar counters. They're complimentary.

My brain doesn't function at 3am so I wouldn't be able to work out whether the posts were red or green anyway.

Besides, it was more like 3:30.

I think it would be the wrong thing to go back to the old site now. I think many of us older posters have begun to drift for numerous reasons, not just because of the upgrade, and not just because of BFC. I still pop in and have a quick browse now and again, but I don't contribute much now simply because I'm busy. I like being able to browse the BBS in forum runner on my phone, and for that very selfish reason alone would want this forum to stay as it is. The next generation of illiterates will soon have you LOLing again I'm sure, maybe Adam Hinchcliffe has a younger brother or sister?
