Am I alone in my belief

That if somebody who knows the rules (every single one of us) goes to the football, decides to break these rules by standing up and then refuses to co-operate when a steward or police officer tells them to sit down then they only have brought it on themselves when they are ejected from the stadium?

Furthermore am I the only one who thinks that regardless of their age, gender or their general health they only have themselves to blame when the police and/or stewards use force to eject them when they try to resist?

No you are not alone cos I too always remain seated even when my team scores I just tend to celebrate by handing round cheese and cress sandwiches...on a silver platter I might had.. Washed down with a nice glass of port, tho I did once stand to discuss the previous nights episode of downton abbey, does that count?

I am sure you are not alone ST, but I can't agree with you. I am not a full time stander but when the moment takes me I get up, as does everyone around us. Sitting down all the time sterilises the atmosphere for me. As for being physically removed for standing, way over the top. The sooner we get standing areas the better, then if you want to stand you have a choice, if you don't make that choice and still stand up then I may have some sympathy for your point.

All incidents should be taken in context and all that but you seem to be of an opinion that everyone should be monks when they walk into a ground. . . .aint gonna happen.

 

standing has had its day ponty old chap. Simply not safe when anywhere near full............. Still it would be ok at oakwell cos there is never any fooker there!.....too expensive

They have it in Germany. It could be managed a lot more safely than it used to be. They used to pack people in like sardines, these days they could have an area that safely stands 1000 people and only let a 1000 into it.

 

No you're not. There are times when standing is appropriate and generally most of the stand is also stood at these times but there are some who just stand all the time regardless of whether they are blocking anyones view. I tend to find this happens more at away games than at home where generally I dont experience it. Why do you ask anyway?

 

Because in the thread about the apparent over the top policing I said that people who do as I say in the original post are to blame for their treatment by the police and recieved a lot of replies saying that I needed to get a grip, was out of touch etc and that stewards are out of order if they enforce the rules.

 

What happens if I have no choice but to stand up the number of grounds I go to where I don't fit is frightening.

 

Yes sorry I read that thread just after I posted. Like another poster has said each incident should be taken in and dealt with in context but as you have explained it I don't think you're wrong.

 

I was brought up in the 80's and used to stand in the Brewery stand with r old boy. I loved it, especially when Currie or whoever scored, and I went from been stood next to mi dad, to stood with some randomer! Used to spend a lot of time just trying to find him again.. funny now like.
So thats why I love the away games, especially the relegation party, matches like that where we are stood 90 mins. Brings it all back to the start.
Im up top of the Ponty for that reason although I dont stand throughout, just when singing, for attacks at this end, corners and the like.
If its an offence, there wouldnt be anybody left int Ponty!
Bit of a petty complaint.

 

Sometimes you have to stand - I stand at corners in the ponty otherwise I wouldn't be able to see - the yellow jackets can really fill the boots next time this happens in a match! Technically speaking we are breaking the law when we score because everyone stands then

I really don't understand your 1 man crusade about people standing up at football matches.
