I stand up all way through every home game, and most of the away games unless told to sit down, and to be honest the way these pr!cks talk to people i can understand why they refuse to do as they say.

You are sadly wrong

The force used by the police (only the police, stewards should use no force whatsoever in my opinion) should always be proportionate to the "crime". In the case of standing up at a football match, it should be zero - they should be asked to sit down in the first instance. If the person refuses to comply and then becomes abusive or aggressive then a certain minimal force would seem reasonable. Dragging the person out of the seating area and dumping them on the stairs seems unreasonable to me.

All of this would, of course, be irrelevant if the government would relent and allow the return of safe standing areas as they have in many countries, the prime example being Germany. For a sport which arouses the passions of supporters like football does, it is far more natural to be standing rather than seated. This is the main reason why the atmosphere at Oakwell has been poor for many years. The last time I experienced the hairs standing up on the back of my neck at Oakwell was the Ipswich game just before the Wembley FA Cup Semi-final - when incidentally, virtually the whole of the Ponty end was standing up. The only other time was at Peterborough a couple of years ago when by some strange coincidence we were standing up.......

 

No you aren't the only one. There are instances when standing is ok, obviously when we score. But I'm fortunate in where I sit I'm just behind a gangway so don't get affected by people standing up in front of me. Problem I have is with people who start going down the steps before half time or leaving the game early and then stop to watch what's happening on the pitch.....if you are going then go.

Because if they we're they'd have a bit of a job on their hands trying to get them all out. I stand up at the match, but only because I know i'm not preventing anyone else from seeing as I sit smack below a gangway. I feel it's their behaviour, especially away from home. I went to Preston a few years back, and the stewards were trying to get about 150 Barnsley lads to sit down, one lad, thinking he was clever in front of his mates started giving the V sign to a policeman behind his back. Another policeman saw him and ejected him. The lads dad was in a right huff about it, saying he hadn't done anything wrong. It's people who push the rules to their limit and then can't face the fact that they were in the wrong which does my nut in.

I feel, unless someone's game is being ruined by constant standing then fair enough, but if it's just the 200 or so lads down the side of the ponty end, when nobody's view is being obscured, then what's the problem?

totally agree with that statement. designated safe standing areas is another subject and i agree with the concept if people want to stand a legal case should be made,but as you say protest without impeding other is fine in my book but some people just dont give a fig about others.

 

so...let me get this right...if 5 big lads were sat infront of you and deceided to stand for the entire game you wouldnt moan??
