My main observation first was that we were taken down either wing easily, they had too much space on both sides and we were roasted for it.Secondly we gave the ball away too cheaply and too often...thats what led to their first goal. Lastly we take far took far too long to control the ball in readiness for the next pass that enabled Cardiff to close us down easily. We really made Cardiff look a lot better than they actually are. Now let me a couple of criticisms. As i said we were run ragged down the wings..Mr Hill made 3 subs at half time to try to change things..respect for that..but it made not that much difference on our right back wing...and the left side was made poorer IMHO..sorry but McEveley was poor very poor. The other two subs Vaz Te and Davies did make a difference...especially Davies, when he is fully fit he will be a real asset. Vaz Te needs to just learn one thing ..show boating is not needed by Barnsley..little flicks and stuff are just not our way. Cardiff bossed most of the second half and eventually found themselves 5-1 up as you all know, then all of a sudden we kinda clicked and began to boss the show we suddenly came back to 5-3 but we only had 4 minutes plus stoppages..given a further 5 maybe 10 and I reckon we coulda got a draw. And to be honest the 5 goals did flatter Cardiff a little... I will expand. Well the first for me had a very real touch of offside about it( will like to see it on tv to clarify) but the fact was McNulty was just careless with a stupid loose pass, but I will add that the Linesmen never seemed to up with play at either end. Now the second goal should in no way have happened and that was due to the referee...their player was going through on goal he took a tumble BUT the ref waved play on and signalled advantage ...they went on and Luke made a good stop ...but the ref then awarded the free kick from which they scored..how the hell can advantage be given and then the free kick given? when you see it you will see what I and the entire Barnsley crowd thought. Thier 3rd goal was a superb strike and so was number 4, The 5th was a decent effort but again a bit of slack on our part. The other incident was the back pass and we were awarded a free kick 2 yards from the edge of the 6yard box...the ref allowed the wall to be at least 1 yard off the goal line 6 +1 =7 when I was at school, obviously not in Ref School...how was that? Top marks to our fans..singing from start to finish even when 5-1 down..the players came and applauded and it was deserved
We are the work in progress and we will do well...after today I am certain of that.

    i thought you'd flown home.

i knew there were positives despite the impressions from radio commentary a hard working team doesn't capitulate its priciples in one game. your report seems to verify this. i'm still optimistic for the season ahead cheers for report and keep up the positivity.

well everyone has an off day , guess it was his today.

sorry I am in a good mood despite the loss. Being exhiled down here its a rare treat to go live, the humour of the Barnsley lot is always like a breath of fresh air and today it was a galeforce. No mate we will be fine this term and will go no where near the bottom three... we have a lot more injuries to return. I do see what the big thing about Butterfield is nowadays , he was very very good. But they obviously knew that too and gave him little space or time...that in itself speaks volumes.

I just assumed that you were a bit of a dragon ;-)

You make the game sound much closer than Player did mate, must agree with you on Davies, a few observations i've made of him point to him being a cracking player once fit and after a stretch in the team, if he gets the service of course. Perkins isn't a winger, nor is he fully fit, hence the reason we were mullered down the left wing, and I suppose O'Brien is entitled to one off day.

Bounce back next week vs Bristol City, a game where there's notoriously a lot of goals. 5-3 again anyone?

It wasnt close mate, trust me. If it had finished 10-3 it wouldnt have flattered them.
I said that earlier. But having got back to Tarn just 90 mins ago, and having now heard Keiths comments, he himself admits they could have had 10.
Dragons entitled to his view but I feel he is slightly over-doing this brand-new positive persona. We were gash.

I think that Cardiff will have studied the video from Portsmouth, in which we were clearly vulnerable down the flanks. I think that it is about not having much pace there, especially down our left. It should be easy enough to put right, though. We either need to get different players in at full back, or give the wide midfielders more instructions to get back in support.

I totally agree with that mate, we seem to only want to play in one style and struggle to adapt, that makes us predictable and teams in this division will quickly take us apart. But if we can play in a different way at times the we will keep them on the back foot.

Re: and before anyone asks ..I live 15 miles from Cardiff now...hence the name

It was nowhere near as close as the result suggests.

Me & my mates left the ground gutted, absolutely gutted. Couldn't believe that we had conceded 3 when we hadn't been threatened at all really. We thought we could have got 10-12 btw - and no, I'm not joking (& I'd like to think anyone who's seen my posts over the years will say I'm genuine and will say it as I see it).

Gunnarson missed an absolute sitter on 4 minutes, Steele pulled off a fabulous save from a Miller header just after he'd scored, Earnshaw was through 1 on 1 towards the end with Gunnarson free inside and unmarked - and they were just the simple chances. Plenty of others & Steele pulled off a couple more good saves.

Your first goal was a deflected free-kick when the keeper easily had the shot covered and the second just seemed like a comedy of errors (was at the other end of the ground from me so couldn't really say what happened). And instead of acting professionally and then closing the game out we concede another. We cant defend properly to save our lives tbh and have conceded 9 in the last 3 games, 11 in the last 4.

As for Dragon, I can omly assume he'd drunk far too much SA before the game ;), I can't honestly believe that anyone would be happy with that performance tbh, was as poor as I've seen in a very long time. Sorry and all that, just how I saw it.

No idea what rocky in the net means tbh ???

I've been on here for years mate and take a look back through my posts and tell me when & where I've gloated. Good luck with that.

And I came on here & congratulated you on your wins in the last few seasons btw - the same as I've been on here when we've won.

I visit here most week days & post regularly mate. Not as often as before - but thats the same for many on here.

There was what looked like a pushing & shoving incident with our keeper & one of yours but couldn't make out what it was about, was at the other end to me. Did look like our keeper was more in the wrong if anyone but was too far away tbh. Quite what that has got to do with anything is beyond me though???

    Cheers Bluey keep on posting.

You were though Phil. But whatever.
Glad Bluebird came on and vindicated my own summary of yesterday. We were awful. It was nothing like what we were up to that point. So I believe it was a one-off and Ive moved on. But yeah, thanks Bluebird. I get called an arse-licker and a happy-clapper etc, unjustifiably, on this board by a few. Yet all I ever do is say what I see. Like Catchphrase! ;D
But no doubt when we beat Bristol, and I post a decent summary, Ill be tagged again as Mr Top 6 etc...
