"We werent at the races in that first half. Bristol sat back, man-marked Jacob and looked to hit us on the break with Maynard and Adomah's pace. Because Jacob was marked tightly, and he is our usual go-to guy, that gave extra responsibility to the other lads to get on the ball and stamp our quick-tempo game on the match. Unfortunately, we didnt do that. We dallied in possession, there was very little movement off the ball and this allowed the opposition to gain confidence and they began to cause us problems. We lacked the key ingredient to our recent good home form - our desire and application. The lads looked a yard slower/behind their opponents, and to be fair to Bristol, despite the dubious goal, they had other chances that didnt quite fall for them. We changed it around at half-time, and went with two up top, and that seemed to have the desired effect. Andy Gray missed when it was simpler to score, young Jacob was unlucky to hit the bar, and we had a few corners that led to a scramble or two in their box. And when we scored what was a lovely worked goal after great work by McEveley, I could only see us winning the game. But we slipped back into 1st half mode, and showed their wingers far too much respect as they looked likeliest for a winner. It was all too easy the way they won it, and its a massive blow to throw away what was an ideal chance to grab 3 pts from a game we were lucky to still be in. Id like to thank the vast majority of fans who paid their 30 quid, and were terrific in their backing, especially in that 2nd half. The players have to realise that it is they that dictate the atmosphere. They werent good enough ability or effort-wise in that 1st half, and the crowd were slightly subdued by both that, and of course the dubious Bristol goal. I did hear a few boos at half-time and whilst I dont agree with that kind of reaction, I do understand that the supporters pay good money to support the lads, and so a small minority will vent their frustrations. But we have a quick turnaround now, what with the visit of Hull here tuesday night, and we need to give our fans something to shout about after two very disappointing performances. We are a capable team, as we have shown already this term, and we need to perhaps focus on ourselves, rather than talking up the opposition. After all, I am the Barnsley manager, and I am ecstatic to be here, and loving every minute of it. We all dream of being a footballer as kids, and I have been lucky enough to have lived the dream. We need dreams. Reality is often bleak and ever-present. So I appreciate the tremendous backing we have had in our short time here, and urge the fans to stick with us because we need them. Starting tuesday night..."
You should be manager whitey, or at least... Do Kieth Hills post match interviews for him. perfectly summed up. No mention of the wife, marriage or third world. Just an honest assessment that wouldn't wind up the fans. EASY in it
It makes me wonder if he's working on a exit strategy - cant work with these fans on the players backs yadda yadda blah blah blah.
Bang-on Whitey. Don't suppose you can pick a team of players too can you? Really don't understand this agenda of slagging off the fans. He totally mis-read the motm reaction too as well as getting the player wrong.
Well it would certainly appear that way....with the first outburst most of us looked the other way, even though it did seen strange.. new to job, and town ..nerves maybe...some did not....But to do it twice...means he has intent..if its done twice then this is going to happen every time there is any criticism.... Id say nip it in the bud now...and get shut...its pointless to carry on....and give SOD a ring see if he fancies it..if not re-advertise the post...
