The display first half was as bad as been seen at Oakwell this season. Very lethargic, plenty of pretty passing going nowhere. Bristol had done their homework, and pressed us everytime we got the ball, with the inevitable mistakes from us. The first goal, I couldn't tell if it was offside or not, but Bristol were much more at the races than us, and could have had a second soon after their first. It wasn't until 7 minutes from the end that James had to make a save, which, against a team bottom of the league, is a pretty poor showing from us. I'm surprised Hill didn't make any changes at half time, as Doyle looked off it. I would have put Perkins on straight away, as he would have been "in their faces", something that Bristol were doing very successfully against us. Second half we upped it, and, aside from the Steele save, we dominated and equalised. But then we dropped back into the pace of the first half, and gave the initiative back to Bristol, and we were rightly punished for it. The fans gave their support today, and if Hill is criticising me for shouting and singing to get the team going, then I'm afraid he's on a loser. (I haven't heard his interview, only read what's been posted on here). I can take a defeat. As a Barnsley fan, its something you get used to. But I will not countenance lack of effort, and that was in abundance in the first half, and at the end of the second. We fought our way back, and thought we'd done enough. Today, not good enough by a long shot Barnsley. Much more effort required Tuesday. Mini-rant over.
Poor performance from the team and immature outburst from the manager. All he's succeeded in doing is added to the feeding frenzy from fans who never wanted him in the first place (primarily due to having had the audacity to come from Rochdale) and weren't prepared to give him any time, as well as alienating the fans willing to show patience and tolerance whilst he built up a team/squad under tight financial constraints.
I don't think that many people had a problem with him coming from Rochdale. A lot of fans looked at his CV and saw it as an ambitious and progressive appointment. I still think the same. It's just a shame that is CV doesn't say that he is a complete and utter ******.
And there's still the old chestnut about... only playing one striker at home (remember 2 holding defenders is a must in the modern game)... I would say the main reason for the fall in attendances..is the *modern game*that we don't understand and need education on....is too negative, boring and ****e..
I must have imagined all those posts saying (for example) it was a repeat of the Steve Parkin appointment. Ah well. Proof, if proof were needed, that I know bugger all about football.
