Should they discipline him? Should they publically speak out against his comments and back the fans? Should they publicly praise keith hill and agree with his comments? or should they hide in the boardroom until the next team photo?
None of your options They cant publicly do very much without either undermining him or making things worse What I would hope they are doing is having a word in private about how important the fans are and that scaring them off isnt in anyones interest. Whether that will actually happen though I doubt
What were his comments? In a nutshell and all that . . . . I've looked through this a site a bit and got some bits and pieces but were they really bad? Speakers don't work on my laptop!!
"To get booed off at half-time is uncalled for. It's not a fair reflection of the true supporters. "They are seriously putting the fortunes of Barnsley Football Club in massive doubt."
Not to mention the comments about the supporters having a lack of education for booing the man of the match (despite the fact that HE showed a lack of education by naming the wrong player)
"The players respond to the atmosphere and the atmosphere in the first half was not great...and to get booed off at half time was uncalled for in my opinion.... and for Jim McNulty to get booed for the MOM award was quite disgraceful" There you go - taken from Radio Sheff interview.
My opinions on booing are different to his, I think people are well within their rights to boo . . . . Not the end of the world however, maybe just a bit dramatic.
personally i prefer to leave the ground early rather than boo, unfortunately yesterday i didnt leave the ground early enough, but hey ho **** happens, but seriously what does booing actually achieve other than giving you a sore throat and makin you sound like a tit, go on try it, go stand at your front door and boo at the top of your voice at the first thing you see, then ask yourself did i achieve what i wanted or did i just sound like a proper lovely person
because we can't win with Hill which ever way we choose to support maybe we should all just keep our gobs shut then we can see who he'd blame for the next poor performance. though he's got a point with the Gray miss obviously the Ponty roar for the goal ??? made it amazingly bounce over for no other reason. remember Shhhhoooooosh everybody Tuesday or it'll be all your fault when The mighty Reds are no more
I've not heard the full interview, but if that's the sort of thing he said, are people really calling for disciplinary action and public stoning for that?! If Mick McCarthy was Barnsley manager and he said something like that then folk would be gushing about him "telling it like it is". Sheesh.
They shouldn't do anything IMO, it's history now so let's move on. I didn't like what he said but it didn't offend or upset me I just didn't agree with him this week. He's the manager and is entitled to his opinion as are we. I usually agree with him totally but not yesterday. There is no reason for the club to get involved and I would imagine that PC and Don would back their manager while ever they want him at the club.
Well booing at no-one or a bloke walking his dog won't acheive diddly-****, you're right at that! However, I do believe that if people pay their hard earned money to watch football (or do anything) then they have every right to complain. If you go to a restaurant and its not up to standard then only a fool wouldn't complain, I admit it may be a tad more constructive than booing but unfortunately inside a football ground there is only one way to let them know how you feel.
I don't think anything that he said was out of order personally. When he mentioned a "lack of education" he wasn't referring to general education, he was actually talking about a footballing education. He was suggesting that some fans got frustrated by the fact that we were passing the ball around the back four, and this led to players becoming impatient with the ball because the crowd was becoming restless - despite that fact that was how Bristol City set out to play us. He said he felt some fans didn't understand that it was Bristol's gameplan. It's the exact same thing that we do away from home! We knew before he came that he does not accept any form of booing the players. Everytime people boo KH will bring it up, it's a fact because he does it to protect his players. If he was my boss I'd be grateful he's got my back. Anyway, I'm gutted when we lose (but it doesn't ruin my weekend), and I'm ecstatic when we win (but I don't start raving about is to all that will listen). There are more important things in life, but I'll support us forever.
None of the above I'd just ask him what he hoped to achieve by going down this route. And by that I mean the way he appears to apportion some blame on the fans when things don't go well in home matches. I think the board made the right decision in appointing Keith Hill. I think once you've made that decision you've got to allow him to manage in the best way he sees fit. I don't think you should tell him what to do. But I do think you should question him and challenge him if what he is doing is not to your liking. I don't think what he has done is a sacking offence, I don't think it requires a reprimand either publicly or privately, but I do think it requires discussion. And I don't mind saying that on a personal level it really ****es me off.
Re: None of the above I don't think he would listen personally. We are far beneath what he considers to be 'educated people'
