Not really Menai, its aimed at those posters who constantly knock the town and try to make out that every negative thing such as Druggies, bums etc, are exclusive to Barnsley.
I've never been threatened with a knife or a even a gun, in Tarn.

    We dont need..................shops.

We need people to live in the town centre..........i.e. more Town End plazas
A good place to start would be across the road from this plaza.............but a foooking Lidle is planned for there

Once yer get people actually living in the town centre then it attracts cafes, bars and shops

Only people who'd live in town centre are students. Other places that have city centre living is because they're within walking distance to their jobs.

I live close to the M1 so I can head off to work in Leeds easily.

What do expect 'em to do? Magic businesses out of thin air?

Relatively cheap parking Monday - Friday and free on weekends. New train links, brand new bus station etc etc. Redevelopment of Mandela Gardens, Civic redone to attract some of the country's best comedians etc and fowk complain when a cash converters open up. Barmy.

A post about Barnsley town centre always gets above 1,000 views.

Its not the town centre thats the problem, its the folk that's in it, clear the benefit generation out of it and it'll begin to recover. It will be reyt once the new work starts on it next year but once the new town centres up and running we need snipers on roof tops to take out the unwanted.

Agree with Dyson's point regarding Council's effort to improve the image and generate business in the town

But don't really see what this has to do with the Council at all?

How is it the Council's fault that Ice Interiors (as nice as it was to look at) was not viable as a business anymore and decided to shut up shop/relocate/whatever?

As much as I see the point that it might not be best for our town's 'image', I'd rather there be a cash converters store creating jobs and paying rates than another empty unit.

Supply and demand... that's all there is to it. It's just unfortunate that not enough people in our town earn enough to buy their furniture from Ice Interiors

Pound shops never offer value for moeny - for everything a bargain at a quid, there's ten things worth less than ten bob going for a pound.

That soon-to-be-Lidl area is a real wasted opportunity. Not only because you got Iceland anyway, Morrisons three minutes away, but it it a massive area they could have made like Leopold Square in Sheffield.

I've stopped going to Barnsley full stop, especially at weekends. Sorry, but not into sick smelling crowded decrepid bars with sticky floors these days. Make a few restaurant/bars near town end - like our neighbouring cities - and immediately draw in better crowds and encourage investment.

Might sell apartments overlooking some classy bars or restaurants, but not a supermarket.

I'm far from being posh but when I happen to be in town on a weekday for whatever reason, I think I hope the lunchtime workers don't think I'm one of them (pointing to masses in trackies and caps)

Agreeing with me on your first post - you can stay. Good lad.

People want Town centre to change without them having any investment in it, even time. Free parking on a weekend, and regardless of what people say, the Arcade and Town Hall bits are decent. And if the ten bob millionaires on 'ere were to be believed they could do all their shopping at Frank Birds and spend all day in Pollyanna cafe.

At least with a pawn style shop

you nivver know what you'll find in them so it adds to the interest. Well, unless you aren't expecting video games, dvds, mobiles and the ubiquitous set of PS3 Rock Band drums.

I actually asked what that place in Alhambra would give for DJ Hero special edition in box and turntable etc.

£90 online quotes so thought we'd take £50 for quick sale there and then. Offered £6 and £7 store credit. Might do a robber for a bag of smack but for me not what I'm after ha ha

PS - keeping Beatles Rock Band!

Aint it true that no matter which shops or what developments improved the town centre that there would still be people making excuses why they wont shop in Barnsley.

Makes me wonder why some of them support Barnsley FC they are so down on the town.

Also is Barnsley alone in having undesirables, as you may want to call them, hanging around the town centre or do we ship them in from the glorious areas that are Sheffield/Leeds city centres.

Also bang on abart the ten bob millionaires on here Dys far too up themselves.

We could always just have a big hole in the ground like Bradford or Wakey!

They should have just left that shop between No.7 and Bramah's empty - that would have looked far better!

I mentioned about getting a Costa coffe shop in town to the missus thinking she'd think that was good....her response was why another coffee shop, she listed at least half a dozen independent coffee shops.....got a point there.

Town's picking up from a pub point of view....Old No.7 under Acordn, White Hart got real ale on, and a few other places.....might be tempted to do a pub crawl in town again!

I shop in't Tarn all the time - Frank Birds then a frothy in Pollyanna Cafe.

I just wonder if people like Rita Britton, the Frankie B's owners etc are ever asked for their input on how to develop Barnsley ?
