Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid Don't like the price one bit, but to be fair it's only an extra fiver than what I thought it would be. It's the kids/oap prices that are disgusting. I want to go though because it's local and it's better than having to do summat boring with the other half. Train from Hull is only £4.60 single with railcard so makes it cheaper, I wouldn't go if it was expensive on the train!
That's the problem right there. People moan about ticket prices costing too much, but then won't take a stand to it and boycott an overpriced game. Therefore clubs think they can get away with it and sky high costs continue.
But at the end of the day it's an individual decision. Everyone has their own 'tipping point' as to what they're prepared to pay. This one is over mine, but others feel differently and fair enough. This is not an organised boycott, along the lines of what we were hearing regarding the Leicester fans coming to Oakwell, but a series of individual decisions. Besides, no amount of pressure would persuade Ken Bates to change his opinion, so it'd be pointless trying anyway. The away attendance will speak for itself about what fans thought of the prices. I wouldn't criticise anyone who chooses to go to the game though, as their decision has nothing to do with my own.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid Of those going and paying £36 into the Weeds coffers how many will then boycott the next Cat A match at Oakwell and say 'I'm not paying £30 to watch a match, its a fecking joke'.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid i agree entirely MK... the fact is some of the sad feckers on here live for bfc and would blindly pay whatever Uncle Ken asked for...... others as you say will pay £36 to the aforementioned Uncle Ken but won't go to Oakwell using the excuse 'there is no atmosphere'.....well there never will be unless you start turning up!!
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid Exactly. People who won't find 30 quid to put into our club in an home game, will be finding 36 quid to put into another club.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid what a total insult to your other half.............. you would rather give 'String a beads' £36 than spend the afternoon with your partner...i bet he is well plssed off. hope this helps
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid 'SHE' you mean....She can have Sat night & Sunday with me, I'm nice like that!! Anyway, I've just bought her a ticket for the Donny game, so she will love me again lol
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid I'm not going, I would say it's because of the cost but seeing as I'll be in San Francisco on that date and paying about £50 to see a college football game then I can't really use that excuse!
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid American Football drags on over three hours though so twice the time spent there then you would at Football. Shame you can't go to Candlestick Park whilst over there. It's great to see them 8 and 1 for the first time in nearly 20 years. Sadly I don't think they will go all the way this time around. Packers look way too good and likely to retain.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid 49ers on the road whilst we are there....but I really wanted to see a big college game anyway. Going to Stanford and they've only lost 1 game and their quarterback is tipped to be the number 1 NFL draft pick next year....50,000 sell out game, so should be good.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid Andrew Luck is the guy, and he is very likely heading to Indianapolis next year to be the long-term successor to Payton Manning. He's by far the highest rated draft prospect in recent years and will absolutely be the No1 draft pick. He would have been the No1 pick this year, but opted to stay in college for another season. In the event that the team picking first didn't need a Quarterback (and Indy are at least two game worse off than all the other NFL teams, and desperately do need him) then the value of trading up for this pick is ridiculous this year. Teams giving up their entire draft this year (i.e trading 7 picks for the No1 pick) isn't remotely close. Potentially, there could be a team willing to give up its 1st and 2nd round picks for the next 3 years to get hold of Andrew Luck. Would love to read a trip report on the game after you get back. Very jealous!!
No The price put me off instantly; £36 is extortionate for a 90 minute football match, you wouldn't expect to pay that at the cinema for an hour n a half film, and more often than not it's cheaper to go to a gig than that. On top of that i'd have to put petrol in the car, pay for parking which was a fiver last year, and that's before food and drink, think i'm gunna stay at home and listen to it. It just puts it into perspective really, our HIGHEST ticket price is £30 and most people refuse to pay that.
Last season, there was a gate of 26,300, on a tuesday night in february. I reckon there will be less than 19000 this year, even master Bates can't ignore that. As Sheriff says, it's every individuals choice, however I feel the majority of Barnsley fans who would usually go, aren't doing, there's 5 of us for a kick off not bothering. They'll be lucky if 1500 reds fans go.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid Thanks for that info, I did know that just decided not to go into too much detail on here. Depends for the Colts on whether Manning will come back, if so then they can trade Luck. I'll try to remember to post up a report on the game....I'll certainly have a few photos! They are playing the Fighting Irish.......Notre Dame Watched the Stanford game at the weekend on ESPN, the experts in the studio were rather split on Luck, some saying that they doubted if he had the big game for the NFL whilst others argued that they didn't see the plays because he doesn't have the depth around him.
Re: The show must go on, but with me I'm afraid If anyone gets traded, I think it'll be Manning. Assuming he's fit to play next year I reckon they'll keep both on the roster for a season and then will make the switch the following season. Manning will most likely retire then, but if not then the Colts will still get some trade value for him.
