Has someone died, or has there been a natural disaster?

The only 'crime' committed by Jacob Butterfield was to have a very poor second half performance, along with every other team mate, even the more experienced ones. The over the top criticism of the lad and his abilities is pitiful and pathetic. As for knowing what's going on in the lad's mind ("he's not as good as he thinks he is", for example), that's worthy of school playground logic!
For God's sake, cut the lad a bit of slack. He's a very talented player, the best our Academy has produced so far and is still only 21. Why (as some people have done) compare him with any of the three of the greatest midfielders to play for us (Glavin, Redfearn & Hignett)? At the same age, Glavin was at Partick Thistle, Redfearn was playing in the Fourth Division with Lincoln, then Doncaster and Hignett was at Crewe, also in the bottom division. Butterfield is performing exceptionally well at a higher level than any of those true legends. When all three signed for us , they were older, more experienced and the finished article.
We lost one football match yesterday, one. This after winning four on the bounce and getting into the top ten. Is it asking too much to keep things in perspective? Probably so, with some.

In fairness this forum is all about opinions.

Yesterday we were 2 up at half time and conceded 5 second half goals. That is just hard to digest and accept.

Secondly Butterfield is club captain and also has to take some responsibility and show some level of leadership that was serverely lacking yesterday especially in the second half.


Just my opinions mind based on what i saw yesteday.

Defensively, and in midfield we were all over the place. I felt we needed an experienced midfield head out there in the second half.
lets see how they react to this next week.

 

Totally agree BigLil. This is the kind of league we're in, any team can defeat another no matter what league position or form says beforehand. Ipswich were outstanding 2nd half with a big increase in intensity and the early goals really inspired them, whereas heads went down a little too quickly amongst the Reds. Butts had a poor 2nd half and doesn't look solid enough for central midfield, where Bowyer and Andrews overan us. That's probably why Hill played him in a more forward role, but the injury to Drinkwater meant an enforced change. Tiredness looks a factor too, so a few changes might be needed for the trip to West Ham. Butts has been outstanding going forward, scoring goals and forcing rebounds off the keeper which lead to goals so he can be forgiven for one poor 45 minutes. Haven't seen too much of Addison yet, but he may now have to step in - personally I'd prefer it to be Nathan Doyle and we may live to regret sending him out on loan to Preston...

For the record i have said a number of players let the team down yesterday,especially in the second half,and not one individual.The entire back line need to have a long look at themselves after that performance.


I have just based my Butterfield comments on the fact that he is currently team captain.He played poorly yesterday.Whats wrong with saying that?

 

You know it doesn`t work like that on here its blame game time after a loss.

By the way I still thought Wiseman had a decent 2nd half, couldn`t understand at first why Hill gave him the longest contract of all the newbies but I think he now seems to be fitting into the team/squad quite nicely.

I know h is not everyones favourite player but i actually think Addison could have done a job for the team in the second half.

I say that and i am one of his biggest critics.

 

Well Said! One poor half of football preceeded by a cracking string of results including wins against our local rivals.Some people are never happy. To personally abuse players on social network sites is disgusting and these people should be ashamed! As a true fan one has to take the good with the bad. Its called being a loyal football supporter. The Morons abusing players are NOT true fans.

To be honest mate i think the post was aimed at me as I started the thread regarding Butterfield. As mentioned above, we are all entitled to our opinions, I also stated that the other players were at fault. Anyway, lets move on and i'm sure Hill will get a positive reaction from the team next week.

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion, and I partly agree with you, hence my saying we needed more experience in midfield and the loss wasn't down to any individual.

 

Some people are just angry, spiteful tossers. Sure, pick on Butterfield, 21 years old, inexperienced but having a great season. Ignore Foster and Hassell, bith of whom are vastly more experienced and were defensively poor.

If I had a problem with you, which I don't, I'd take it up with you.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and have a right to voice it. I've voiced mine because I believe some of the comments on here and on Twitter had little to do with football and were more to do with personal abuse.
There's no dispute he played poorly in the second half, but everyone did. Which is why I personally wouldn't single out any individual for criticism.

Let me assure you I was not in anyway trying to dish out personal abuse, if that is how my posts have been interpreted by others then all I can do is apologise. The fact he has received personal abuse on his twitter account is disgusting. Jacob has great potential, maybe I'm expecting too much from a kid who is only 21. As you point out the whole team were poor in the second half. I really do hope he signs a new contract with us and continues to develop his game.

lets be honest about it, people who choose to abuse players and fellow fans while hiding behind a computer screen are nothing but cowards, if they came face to face with the people who they abuse they would prbably sh1it themselves and claim they were misquoted

Well look I probably am expecting too much from Butterfield. He is going yo mistakes, but its how he learns from those and continues to develop. My comments last night were made when I was very frustrated that we had thrown away a 2 goal cushion. As a number of people have said, let's move on and go get a result at West Ham!

 

With regard to Glavin, he was part of the Partick Thistle team that wallopped Celtic 4 - 1 in the Scottish League Cup Final, and playing regularly at a far higher standard than the then Second Division.

The turning point for me yesterday was Drinkwaters injury. Butterfield was playing very very well just off Davies. When Done came on he was poor for me - Plus Butterfield was pushed back and no matter what many think he isnt good enough defensively. That certainly didnt help matters. But the abuse hes getting is unreal. Hes 21 with a flaw in his game - Show me a 21 year old that hasn't. Butterfield wasnt good enough 2nd half - But neither was the other 9 outfield players!!

But I don't agree with the 'far higher standard'.
The 28 year old Ronnie Glavin who signed for Barnsley was better than the 21 year old who played with Partick. That was my point.
