Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is ready to make a move for Barnsley’s young skipper Jacob Butterfield as he looks to change his squad. The £2million-rated 21-year-old caught the eye with his mature displays in midfield and the Oakwell club is poised to take bids when the window opens. http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/tra...-captain-Jacob-Butterfield-article844612.html
Ditto. Be a great bit of business for sure. Would make our bank balance a bit more comfortable and release a bit of extra funds to the manager.
And yet another dated photo £2MILLION????? Come on. Seriously? If this proves to be true i will presonally drive him there.
I'm one of Butterfield's biggest fans But I wouldn't try to argue that the way he has played so far in his career makes him a £2 million player. But when Premier League clubs spend vast sums of money on young players they're not paying for what that player has achieved or the way they are playing at the time. They're buying potential. Do I think Jacob Butterfield has the potential to become a much better player than he is at the moment and consistently put in performances that mark him out as a £2 million+ player? Yes, I do. Not that I think we'll get anything like that amount though.
What is his value to us though ? We can argue all day long about what he'd fetch in transfer fees, but what will his loss mean for BFC ? That said I have confidence in Hilldave to deal with it.
Re: What is his value to us though ? He's involved with so many of our goals, I think we'd miss him a lot more than people realise. I've heard a few people say we wouldn't miss him the way we missed Hammill last season, but I believe Butterfield has scored or created far more of our goals than Hammill did. We've taken a young lad who was released from a Premier league Academy and helped turn him into an England U-21 international who consistently unlocks defences. If he was at Cardiff or Middlesbrough or Leeds they would value him in the millions. I don't see why we shouldn't put him in that price bracket too.
Re: What is his value to us though ? It's like Steve Agnew revisited. Because Butterfield doesn't run about constantly for 90 minutes or kick the opposition up in the air then he's not worth owt. Remember Agnew getting the "get stuck in" shouts. Then he'd pillock 2 defenders and curl a shot in or supply a defence splitting pass. If he was at cardiff they'd get £5mill for him - I'm not saying that he's actually worth that, I'm contrasting the 2 clubs.
Re: What is his value to us though ? He isn't an under twenty international. He has been selected for the squad. And the Cardiff young super star went Celtic for a free.
Re: Yeah, you're right, he's **** At last your learning. I do not think outside out the reev anyone has actually said he is **** just been realistic about his ability his plus points and his shortfalls.
