I don't give a **** if it was voted for by the queen. It wasn't a team of the 90's. It wasn't a vote to name a team of the 90's. It wasn't a vote about the 90's. Dear hemsworth-tyke, Could you please tell me which decade 2002 falls in. ta
Just so I'm clear, do you want us limit the debate to which is the best team or.. Are we allowed to discuss the players that have been chosen (or not chosen)? If your answer is the former, my answer is the foreigners. If your answer is the latter, why didn't you say that in the first place? In either case, here endeth my contribution to it
Hmmm. As was the SPOTY award that Gazza won. Millions of fans. But then, that award doesnt count does it Hemsy? No, because it doesnt suit your inane argument. Will you ever understand that this forum is OPINION based? Just ponder on that and then hit me with another wiki/google/SSN "FACT"... imbecilic infant
Of course it is. You say it is a popularity contest. How do they get popular? Each and every winner is at the very top of their sport.
Although the poll is interesting reading it does suggest a number of flaws. The fact that over seas votes were included demeans the result how people from nations force fed the 'big four' can lead to a fair poll is a mystery. Infact back then it would be big three with odd players cherry picked from elsewhere. I also am struggling to see how the short lists were drawn up. No zola Le tiss big Les or ginola.. No overmars No Petit. No Fowler or even wallymore. I see you have not managed to answer my question....
so your saying popular players win. nar whos won most in messi and tevez ? whos most popular in agrentina? not him whos won the most thays for sure. flintoffs won it, we'll see soon but i dont cook will win it. whos won the most? cook flintoff hardly won a test in aussie land.
Is that to me, you are answering to yourself and it isn't easy to tell. I am saying that talented sports people win it. They are popular too, but they are popular because they are good at their sport. Surely you can see that? I haven't a clue what your messi/tevez analogy even means never mind what it is meant to prove. Struggling with your cricket one too.
Then what you are saying is wrong mate. To be considered for this award you have to be the best in your field, not just popular. That is what makes them popular, being good at the sport the play. That really is the truth.
But they do. Flintoff was a great cricketer in 2005, especially in the Ashes series, he won SPOTY that year. Gazza won it in 1990, the year that he was the best player at the World Cup and we nearly got to the final. He was one of the best players in the world at the time, that is why Lazio had paid nearly £10m for him. Why don't you go have a look at all the past winners and show me a single winner who weren't at the top of their sport when they won it. There aren't any.
I reckon cok will be very popular tomorrow night in Barnsley!!!! What the heck has Messi got to do with the Sports Personality of the Year Award? He plays in Spain, so is therefore not included. Also Flintoff was an exception player in a team that was not as good as the current one, he also had a personality, not like the miserable buggers that play for England now! Maybe that is why?
Cok is popular if you are that way inclined. But your Tevez - Messi analogy is daft. Tevez has more awards in south america than Messi, because he has played a lot of club football there, in Brazil as well as Argentina. Wheras Leo Messi plays for Barca, in EUROPE... I dont know why we try debating with you, as you are clearly unaware of what a debate is. But, 'The Manx Missile', Mark Cavendish, who completed Le Tour, won the sprint race as well as 5 stages, and became World Champion this year, is in your opinion, not a world talent. I take it the millions of voters are wrong, and again, you are correct. Obviously.
