I can't think of anyone, even Norman was a gentleman compared to that piece of dung.

I remember he was immortalised in one of the Celtic fanzines, where his challenges were highlighted and named. My favourite was the 'George McClusky' which involved two feet over the ball on the same knee. The result was McClusky out for a season. Wasn't he sent off inside 15 minutes on his Rangers debut?

outright dangerous maybe Souness but in terms of constantly fouling as a method of breaking up the game ie. cheating - got to be Paddy Vieira. In fact he wasn't dangerous because what he mostly did was little niggly fouls that wouldn't get him booked, always thought of him as being dirty for that reason though.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

Graham Roberts? Now there was a player not afraid of a tackle. Sometimes he even did it to players who had the ball.

The same Graham Roberts who stamped on Gwyn Thomas and effectively ended his career and grinned after he had done it?

Agreed - Muscat was a nasty, dirty so and so.
Going back a few years for us - remember Graham Pugh - he could be artfully late into the tackle on his day!

I meet Pugh a few years ago when I lectured at Chesterfield College. He worked for the local Chamber of Commerce.

He had less hair than I have and looked as if he was 9 stone wet through.

I just couldn't imagine him as one of footballs hard cases, which he was.

I got the impression that he was a very nice bloke.

That was Darren Wood! Roberts always gets blamed for it though.

Gerry Gow was a dirty player in his day too. In fact, if you ever get to watch a replay of the 1981 FA Cup Final, it was not just famous for the excellent goals (of which Steve MacKenzie's was better then Ricky Villa's, by the way), but also for the tasty challenges. If that game was played today (and wasn't a World Cup Final!) there'd be six aside by the end of 90 minutes.

I'll also give another mention to Kevin Muscat. Horrible man. Some of his finest assaults are there to be found on youtube.
