Need to decide which one to go to on New Years Eve. Not been to Pinocchio's for years so forgot what it's like and I know Rinaldi's has been taken over so don't know if it's as good as it used to be. Anyone been to either recently??

    Never heard of Rinaldis

So i'd obviously say Pinocchio's, been dozens of times before and never had a bad meal. Most recent of which was just a couple of days ago.

Rinaldi's is very good again since it has been taken over (I assume you mean the one at Sandal Castle Centre?).

    Can't comment on Pinocchio's.

    Bistro Romanos?

Opposite library. Nice atmosphere but not quiet, decent snap.

Mezzaluna been our NYE haunt a few times. Only time service has been perfect. We won't be going to a dinner dance this year either!

Wierd- I am an Italian food fan (we have a house in rural Italy and I also do a lot of cooking). I have eaten at Pinocchio's 3 times in about 25 years and every time vowed never again. When we often walk past on Saturday's after shopping it always smells good, but on each occasion we have eaten there the service was lousy and the food awful. Others say it is good. We must just have been 'unlucky' as it would never have survived as long as it has if what we had was the norm . I know it is no help but the best was the one that was open for a brief period at the riding stables on the way out to Penistone which, I think is now an Indian. Other than that, the only one I have eaten at locally that was worth ther money was the one on Shambles St - nothing remarkable but reasonably inexpensive. The one up Dodworth road was ridiculously overpriced.

    Re: Bistro Romanos?

Real Italian restaurants unless you are in a 'high end' one or in a touristy area are a) Never quiet b) usually have at least one television playing away to itself c) have Momma/Grand momma sitting in a corner either knitting or watching television until she is called to the kitchen when it gets busy. The UK idea of Gigham tablecloths, straw covered bottles of Chianti, romantic candlelight and romantic mood music is a UK touristy concept.

Pinnocchio's is poor in comparison with with most good Italian restaurants. They regularly claim that they have run out of Draught beer in order to sell the more expensive bottles too.......wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

If you want Italian in Barnsley then you can't beat Puccini's on Dodworth Road
