I'm looking for somewhere to eat tomorrow night in or around Barnsley (I'm coming up early for the game). Thai, indian, italian, any foreign stuff would be great. It's me, wife and my 17 year old daughter and we are in the car so can travel a bit. Somewhere lively with good food and nice atmosphere would be ideal.

    TIA

Dil Raj at Dodworth for Indian food

Red Ginger (formally Isaacs pub) for Thai type meals.

Grille (next to Silkstone pub) varied menu.

Thanks everyone. I just looked at the Dil Raj videos - looks really good. Red Ginger looks interesting too, so good job we have a few days to sample it all.

I would recommend Red Ginger, asian fusion restaurant on Shambles Street.

Spencer Arms, Cawthorne for top quality (price to match) pub food.

Strafford Arms, Stainborough for decent basic pub food. Try the massive haddock if you go there.

Red Ginger, Chilli/Grille, Bistro Romanos in town.

Puccini's on Dodworth Road, up market Italian.

Dil Raj in Dodworth, but take a calculator for when the bill comes. Watch out for Big Lil.

    Mezzaluna at Mapplewell.

Ha Ha , the two WORST places for Indian food in Wombwell, if you know your curries and your spices!

Try 'Shaams', small, Indian restaraunt with a Chef who knows what cooking Indian food is all about, superb food based on your liking and taste and fantastic hospitality.
Balti Palace and Jafram are 2 of the worst "Faux Indian " restaraunts out there in Wombwell, oh and if you like you curries laced with half a ton of sugar then both of these restaraunts will satisfy your palate - ugh, awful, when asked why I wasn't happy, I explained that everything was far too sweet, I was told it was the sweetness of the onions ! Hell, we get the similar sack of onions from the 'International Supermarket' in Bradford.
Both these places in Wombwell wil give you a nice night if you are not interested in Curries, now Shaams is on a different level and is highly recommended.
In fact, I think we are very lucky to have such a damn , great place for a curry and on Tues , Weds and Sunds it's only £9.95 for 4 courses as they try to establish themselves.
    It's fab trust me.

    Slightly further afield

The British Oak on Denby Dale Rd is it? Just down that long stretch from West Bretton.

Quality English pub grub and huge chunky chips.

Good shout that, very nice food there, also at the Navigation, a little way towards the M1 and off to the left, by the side of the canal. Good beers there too.
