Re: to be fair i agree with......Chef Tyke Its great to see we are now comparing our strikers to some of our past best. I think that we have to take Davies. development into account too. He has started only 14 games in this dicision, yet he has a 1 in 4 shots (all) goal ratio (1 in 11), scores 1 in 2 games (1 in 9) and has 60% (41%) of shots on target. Jermain Beckford's stats in brackets as a reference. Although stats can say anything we want, his goals per game/shot ratio is better or on a par with Shipperley and Dyer, both who did a great job for us. Putting Stats to one side, davies outmuscles defenders and its clear when he is on his game he is a handful for any defence he has played against so far. With his back to goal he turns well and finds the net. He seems to miss the easier chances and one on ones but thats something he can work on. I think with more experience in drawing defender fouls, consistency, first touch and 1 on 1 finishing he can only improve his goals tally and all around play. He does the job perfectly that Hillcroft brough him in for. Vaz Te proving a good foil winning headers and now scoring goals too. Remember we signed both on free transfers and took a risk with both. The risk so far has paid off big style. So to counter my own points and the woman in the top stands comments *BTW we had a similar comment from a woman behind us), who exactly would we / should we replace Davies with if he isnt good enough for our team?
Sorry about that, mate All I ask is that you cut me some slack. This old sod is usually in bed giving it zzzzzzzzzzzzzz's at the time I posted!!
Re: Actually mate, I said Davies is the best striker we've signed since Shipperley Nardiello. The most natural goalscorer I've seen since Hendrie. Oh and I agree with you about the 'fault finders'
Re: Actually mate, I said Davies is the best striker we've signed since Shipperley IMO I think Davies is excellent. His work rate is exceptional, he is strong, quick and is scoring 1 in 2. One of Vaz Te's goals was actually his on Saturday too and he made the first. The ball doesn't always stick, but its incredibly difficult when you've got a centre half up your arse and the ball is pinged in to your feet. It simply shows how good a player Gray is in that role that he rarely gives the ball away. However, Davies provides spmething completely different. We should learn to appreciate what we have.
Davies is quality, no doubt. But can I just point out that Vaz Te is not even a striker. 10 goals from left midfield and has been on bench a bit. Incredible.
Best 'centre forward'.........since Shipperley......thats in old money .......meaning the best old fashioned type of centre forward since Shipperley......that is, able to knock defenders about and make chances for others (e.g. Vaz Te first goal against Leeds) but also has the ability to score himself. Bruce Dyer wasn't that type of player. I would put Bruce in the Vaz Te type of player bracket.
