Just listened to that and thought what a great interview it was, right up to the last question. Not that it matters one jot when he's as successful as he is, but I really do wonder what type of interactions he is having with supporters for him to keep saying the things he does about lack of respect, excessive expectation and being disliked. I've said it elsewhere, but whenever I read this board, take a glance at Tykesmad or Facebook pages, or talk to other supporters at work, I hear nothing but praise for Keith Hill and the team. Sure, there's the odd over-reaction to poor results, but in a demographic of 10,000+ you'll always find the odd nutter. If I could have one conversation with Keith, aside from thanking him for the work he's done, I'd like to ask him how he gets to hear/read all of this negative stuff he keeps referring to. Maybe the supporters trust could ask him?
The answer: He cares. He's passionate. There is stacks of negative stuff written about him. I can't believe some of the crap I read about him. Some fans on this board calling him a "motor mouth" whilst they post their opinions to the masses on a daily basis and crow about their right to an opinion. Hypocrisy anyone?
Quote "The Barnsley people are magnificent" Another one "The supporters have been magnificent towards me" Nowt else to say.
Re: Quote "The Barnsley people are magnificent" Which of course I heard, right after "I'm sick of hearing X/Y/Z," repeated in most interviews. Don't get me wrong, I'm really not having a pop at the guy. If anything I feel sorry for him because he clearly has a perception that he has far more opponents than I can make out that he has. I'm just interested to understand where he gets this view from, and who these people are that are getting at him. I'f I could give them a good shoeing on his behalf I would!
I think he was referring to the media to be honest. He says "I'm sick of it being reported I'm not a liked man" - before saying the players deserve to have everyone on their side and "supporting" what they are trying to do. I think he's saying that the media are trying to create a story that isn't there because the "supporters" are behind what him and Flicker are trying to do. On a side note, does anyone else read the word "supporters" in Keith Hill's accent?
To be fair, I don't think that "motor mouth" is a negative view, it just indicates that he has a lot to say. Which he does, some of which is difficult to fathom and sometimes contradictory in the space of two sentences. As in the post below, there is no intention to have a pop at the guy here. The managers post match interviews are fair game for analysis and debate here, that's why he gives them and why these kind of forums exist. In my post that you quote, I accept that there are extremes of viewpoint and certainly some overstep the mark. But you don't need to read these boards every day to know who the usual suspects are, and if they do go overboard they're normally shot down with 20 odd posts telling them they're talking ******. Surely Keith's a bigger man than to let the odd keyboard warrior dominate his thoughts to such an extent that he refers to them of a weekly basis?
Yep, he said that too, but most of his interviews this year have indicated that it is the fan base that expect too much. But all the same, I don't recall reading anything in the media which suggests he's disliked. And yep, I tend to read all of his interviews in his native tongue. Fortunate that I quite enjoy the accent (whoa... hot potato subject!)
Re: Quote "The Barnsley people are magnificent" That will be ignored by some though cos apparently Hill is arrogant and hates the Barnsley fans.
I've never heard anyone refer to another as a motor mouth without negative intent before. But I take your point.
To be fair mate I also took it as a bit of a go at questions he gets asked in media interviews. I also think he's trying to build a Ferguson-esque siege mentality at Oakwell - whether that's right or not is debatable.
Refreshing post match interview from Hill, he is open and honest with the supporters and he is well respected by the players. He is happy with us as supporters as the majority are with him. Something reported in the media has clearly stood out for him, good on Hill for setting it straight.
