Would the council sort this?

Next door but one have an old 3 piece suite dumped in the ginnel between houses for a couple of weeks, just been to ask if they are planning to get it moved and she just said "no" with a look which suggested she thought my question was stupid! I suggested she call the council to pick it up and she said that costs money and she doesn't have any!
So....what's the next move considering this is partly blocking my access to the back of house.
If, as I suspect, she is on benefits, would the council pick it up without charge?

p.s. To Thereev, I tried pouring coca-cola on it but it didn't do any good!

 

I don't think it'd be done free of charge at her request, but I suspect you can basically report it as fly tipping. You can do it online here:

Get it reported and make sure they know where it came from. Let her explain her reasons to the council.
Can bet she smokes, has a dog/cat and a full Sky subscription.

Give Regulatory Services a call mate - 772468. It won't be moved for nothing, but there's legislation to make the people responsible to move it or pay for council to move it.

 

Give Liverpool council their do they have a scheme where they pick stuff up like this for free

 

If she is a Council tenant they will force her to move it under the terms of her lease. Or they should. She will have to pay for the Council to move it (or some private firm) but she will probably choose the Council, then not pay the bill. That seems to be how it works. If it is on public land/highway then report it as fly tipping.

It's the access between houses, wouldn't be classed as public land/highway, but even though it's not directly next to my house, I do have a legal right of way through there and it's partly blocking it - had a job on getting the bins round last week. It's not a council tenant, private landlord.

Cheers for the advice Gaz for regulatory services, I'll leave it a week as her final comment was she'd see if she could find someone to move it (translate to, it'll get dumped in a hedgerow), but if it's still there after this weekend I'll give them a call.

In the reply to your initial question..................no......... Council can't do that.they might send 4 blokes to stand around hummimg and arghhhing... Then they will say summat like 'nah can't do that...health and safety kid'.
