The word legend is widely overused these days but today is the 70th birthday of a true legend and icon Muhammed Ali, at 43 am a bit young to remember most of his fights but I do remember the tv appearances on Parky and the like, often controversial but always entertaining, what a fighter, what a man and a true legend in every sense.
Happy Birthday and thanks for the memories

Thought he'd died this morning! They are overdoing the stuff on the radio about him.

A true legend that transcends sport. One of my heroes in life. The best boxer ever, still, and a thoroughly nice and rounded individual too. Hope for many more birthdays for him.

HAHAHAHA, Ali a nice and rounded individual...yeah pull the other one. Was an absolute **** to Joe Frazier, someone who had helped him get his boxing licence back after the Vietnam fiasco. Also watch ALI on one of the Parkinson interviews where he talks about opposing mixed race couples.

He is probably the worlds greatest showman and maybe even the worlds greatest boxer, but he certainly was not a "thoroughly nice and rounded individual"

Always seems it to me. We all have our moments and controversial opinions but it doesn't change the fact he is a great human being who did a whole lot more good than bad. I stand by what I said.

Said things about Fraser that were so bad his children had to leave school in tears

Appreciate everyone makes mistakes or say things they regret, but Ali crossed the line during that fight several times, and for that I simply don't think you can class him as a great human being.

Was an extremely nasty piece of work when he wanted to be - and I don't mean in the ring!
