I've not really paid too much notice to this but I understand that the funds in the offshore account is about £190K. The tax on this would be in the region of £76K. If this was a normal case then the revenue would have gone after the tax & interest and penalties. They would probably go for about a maximum of £160K (tax & 100% penalty & interest). I'm surprised that this has got to criminal charges as the matter would normally be a civil manner. Is Redknapp paying a 'Harry' tariff ?

In normal circumstances the Revenue would ask for a 'certificate of full disclosure' which means he would have to disclose all his worldwide income and assets. If he signed that and it turned out he was not telling the truth then he'd get the 'Piggot' treatment.

As I said I haven't read anything about it except for today.

Personally, I think if he's guilty who should be punished purely as the law states, whether that's a financial penalty or whatever. However, if he has evaded 1p of tax he should not be considered for England manager.

But that's a different matter though isn't it Andy ? If a contract is written that way and subject to tax and NI then legally there is nothing wrong. Morally, now that' between the person receiving and their conscience. A re-write of the football rules regarding this matter is overdue methinks.
