John McGovern's comments were pathetic and all credit to Joey Barton for his contribution.

You aren't seeing the difference are you? The first examples you give are somebody who has done something wrong. So yes, there should be fines and banning orders for homophobic abuse,

What about players who are given stick for being a little over-weight or for being bald, or Welsh, etc. They haven't done anything wrong but they still get some banter from the terraces. Do we stop all terrace chanting just in case it might offend somebody. Provided it doesnt cross the line and become abusive I don't see a problem. Do you honestly think that a gay footballer would be offended by some fans chanting "where's your boyfriend gone" because those I know wouldnt be arsed (no pun intended) one bit.

In my formative years it was illegal to do what they do.. I have never seen the attraction of doing it, It doesnt mean im frightened of it ..it just abhores me. There is nothing gay about what they do......But LESBIANS now thats a different thing... lets have more of that on Tele.... naked lesbian wrestling.....just got to go and knock one off...lol

That was in the 80's though

Homosexuallity is more widely accepted these days.

The way I see it is, players are still recieving abuse for the colour of their skin, both from the crowds and fellow players, how long before we get someone like John Terry being caught on camera for calling an opposition a 'facking paff'. Pathetic, but that's the trouble, there's always one. It's as though they picked Joey Barton on purpose, 'your one of the biggest bellends in football Joey, tell us if you'd give homosexuals stick on the football pitch', obviously Joey's going to say no, and not that i'm doubting him, but what happens on the pitch is another matter altogether. If they asked John Terry before they played QPR if he was going to racially abuse Anton Ferdinand, he'd have said no.

Another thing is, why do they keep pushing homosexual players to come out as it were; if they don't want their sexuality revealing, surely the last thing they want is for the BBC to make a documentary about it. Do the FA and the BBC know that there are homosexual players and just want to out them? What's the big fuss over a player coming out as gay, are there any gay footballers in the first place? nobody knows?

Difference with Robbie Savage is, he was only a **** on the pitch, Barton has a criminal record.

one man's banter is another man's abuse.
And yes there are gay players - I know of two who played for BFC, one of them now in football management the other playing for another Northern club.

Whoever is at our next supporters trust meeting as a guest should be asked if they watched the show and why they think nobody has come out since Justin all those years ago. Be interesting to see what our club thinks on it.

As for the show I did like the views of Matt Lucas. **** like "we can see you holding hands" and "we know, why your seats are soft" is banter. If someone chanted something like "you ****ing gay ****er" that would obviously not be banter. The gays I know love a bit of gay banter. They don't want to be treated any differently to people who are bald, ginger etc who take banter.

what you all seem to be missing is

the "willy watching" in the dressing room, i mean if they put a red blooded male in the england ladies dressing room there'd be hell to pay and the guy would be called all sorts, but if you put a gay man in an all male dressing room is that ok ?, how long before he got walled up for perving. As for the abuse i bet theres no poor ******* took more than paddy kenny at oakwell when their lass buggered off, i seem to remember the ponty singing "theres only one paddy kenny" at the end of the match and us applauding him and him applauding us.
