My laptop won't connect to my wireless router, the router is brand new and my connection is active, even on the laptop it is saying connected with 5 bars with the name of the router but it just will not connect to it!If anyone can help I,d be obliged its driving me mad, thanks.
If your laptop is saying that it's connected to the router, then it must be connected to the router! Are you saying that you can connect to the router, but not access the internet? If so, I'd try plugging the router directly into your telephone socket (if you are using a splitter). Try a reboot of the rooter and try resetting the IP configuration through your laptop. If it's a new router and the same ISP, it may need your current account details (username/password) inputting onto the router - your ISP should be able to talk you through this. Changing the channel will only affect the broadcasting range, so won't matter a lot if you can't access the internet anyways.
Sorry but all this changing settings is above me I'm afraid all I've done b4 is plug the router into phone line put the yellow cable from laptop to router run the software but it won't get to the stage where I put my ISP user name and password in it just won't connect to the laptop ie constant flashing amber light not blue like it should be.
You may have to actually input your details onto the new router - you should be able to login to it via a web interface. Most broadband packages these days negate this and come ready to use. If you're with an ISP and have received a new router, it may need re-configuring for use with your current account details. I'd give them a call and ask them to talk you through it.
Pour coca-cola on it and claim on the house insurance. Where is thereev, he has gone a bit quiet recently?
To be fair that is what I was going to suggest. I get this problem intermittently at home, simply resetting the hub (on BT) sorts it out.
Thanks for your help guys the router wasn't supplied by my ISP I purchased it myself I've rang my ISP that are a waste of space, they just tell me that my broadband is working you just get to the stage where you don't know what to do next!is it the router or the laptop which is new also.
I would try going into your connections configuration and disconnecting it from your laptop then reconnect and see if this works. I had a similar problem and in the end i completely wiped my wireless router settings in system manager and reintalled it but try the easy things first.
Av you gone into router configuration via Ethernet cable and entered your broadband username and password? If not this will be why. Drove me crazy wen I got my router, I had no idea u had to do this, I just thought I could plug it in and away I went.
Further to what I posted regarding this matter when I turn the laptop on and the router it is showing in the taskbar 5 bars excellent connection and the name of tha router but the laptop won't connect to it,would this suggest that the laptop is at fault, sorry I,m not very technical!Any help much appreciated.
First thing is to follow what it says in the manual - It may be that you need to install some wireless software. Check there isn't any newer. You say that it's giving you 5 bars with excellent connection. This would indicate that you have connected to the wireless router, but your unable to get on the internet. 1) Disable any firewall (temporarily), to see if you laptop isn't blocking the internet. 2) Try connecting to the router config page from a web browser. Normally at an address like 192.168.0.1 - But check your manual to see what the default is. 3) Check your laptop is given an IP address from the Router - Your network card set to DHCP and not a static IP. This can be found in the properties of your network adapter or a 'ipconfig /all' from the cmd.exe As mentioned above, what make of router is it, who is your ISP and what make is your laptop / wireless card / adaptor?
Router f9k1002 n300 Bellini, laptop Acer aspire 5830 when I do ipconfig it doesn't give an address and says media disconnected
inconfig probably will say media disconnected, so does mine. It's the top part your interested in (In your Wireless adapter section): IP Address Default Gateway The default gateway will be your router address, the IP address will be an address within the same subnet. Within the cmd.exe do a 'ping bbc.co.uk' or any other website. This should give you 4 replies if your connected to the internet.
Have you run the set up CD on your laptop as specified in the user manual ?? If this is your router , you will also need a modem to connect the router to, then the modem connects to the ADSL (BT) line, have you got a modem ?? if you havent you wont be able to connect to the internet. http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=543385
