Let's hope they don't approach us for him. BARNSLEY manager Keith Hill has expressed an interest in the Leeds United job. Speaking at a press conference this morning ahead of Barnsley’s home game with Birmingham City, Hill was asked to comment on growing speculation linking him with the job vacated by Simon Grayson at Elland Road. “It’s brilliant with respect to myself. I suppose it proves that people are actually taking note, if that’s the case, of the job that we are doing at Barnsley,” he said. He was asked twice whether he was interested in the job. “To be perfectly honest, somebody once said to me ‘you’re only ever three games away from the sack as a manager’ So I would never rule anything out.” he replied. Pushed again, a short time later, Hill replied: “I’d be interested in that job. I’m interested in my family. I’m interested in Barnsley Football Club. I’m interested in looking after David Flitcroft Barnsley’s assistant manager). That’s it. I’m interested in football, put it that way.” When asked if there had been any approach from Leeds, Hill said cryptically: “Manuel. I know nothing!” Former Barnsley captain Neil Redfearn is currently in caretaker charge at Leeds and has been told he will stay in the position for a minimum of three more games by chairman Ken Bates. http://m.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/...s_he_stakes_his_claim_for_leeds_job_1_4231186
The headline on the website says the he "Stakes his claim" for the job. What disgraceful reporting....he is pressed repeatably by a journalist and basically says he wouldn't rule anything out. And they spin that into saying he's wanting the job.
and this was said in a conference to do with his team, taking on Birmingham City? really? or really shoddy reporting?
"only 3 games from the sack" Thought you wern't scared of getting the sack Keith?? He's really come across as wanting the job - but that might be how its been reported. For me - if he up sticks and leaves half way through his first season when he has achieved nothing it goes against all his principles as a manager - and what he preaches! He should take note of what happened to Simon Davey when he thought he had the opportunity at a better job when he had barely started his current one. Nobody will touch him now. You have started a great thing here at Barnsley Keith! 99% are behind you and I feel next season could be massive if you stay. You ought to be careful what you say about this leeds job as it could damage relations here with the players you have signed and also those looking to sign. Tread carefully imho.
They might be spicing things up a bit But it's not really 'disgraceful' is it. There are lots of examples of disgraceful journalism, but slightly exaggerating the interest shown by a football manager in another job isn't really one of them.
Re: "only 3 games from the sack" With looking at how the Darlo finances are it's looking more clear that Simple Simon probably had broken promises with finances.
Re: "only 3 games from the sack" You do realise that the reporter 'Ian Appleyard', is a big Leeds fan. Probably making mischief.
Re: They might be spicing things up a bit They've walked up Skiers Spring Tip and declared it to be higher and tougher than Everest. That's what the Yorkshire Post have done.
that just tells me he is keeping his options always open..thats all Thats life, we all keep our eyes and ears open for a better prospect. If a better job comes along then of course you are interested. I bet they could say too that Keefy is interested in the England managers job too. Try to remember that the YP is in fact compiled in the boardroom at BellEnd road. Then look up the word Propaganda.
And why not I wonder if the prospect of losing our management team may well amke one or two wake up to the fact that despite his accent and often bizarre soundbites in the press - who else but Hill and Flitcroft would have us esconsed in mid table after losing our most creative midfielder (who has only really flourished under them) and our top scorer ( who they brought in and revitalised his career) and under a budget that is towards the bottom 4/5 teams in this league ? Of course there'll be loads of succesful tried and trusted managers waiting to step into the job. Like ****. Hill needs to stay and be backed by the board and fans in what he's trying to establish here.
Re: "only 3 games from the sack" I'd be interested to hear the full interview and hear the context of the conversation myself. Presumably it'll be up on Player soon enough. Regardless of what's said my biggest concern is that he's not hidden his frustration with the financial backing he's had this season, so maybe there's some dissatisfaction felt. The most recent example of this was the news that he's disappointed with the Vaz Te fee, contrary to what Don Rowing alluded to. If I were running BFC now, I'd be doing everything I could to work proactively with Keith to get his long-term commitment to the club. If that means putting him on a long-term contract then so be it. He's done enough to date to earn this, and we need to be proactive to retain him now, rather than wait for the inevitable attempts to lure him away. Do I think this will happen? Absolutely not.
Re: And why not Whilst I agree with much of your post.....a couple of things Since losing Butterfield we've won 2 and lost 4, since losing Vaz Te we've won 1 and lost 2. So our form since losing Butterfield isn't that good. I'm still a little apprehensive about the final 3 months of the season.
Re: And why not I just want 4 wins on the board asap. Think the signing of Tonge is some way to replacing Butterfield's creativity - replacing the top scorer will be difficult but if we start creating for Davies again then that may not be such a problem.
Re: And why not The thing is with Leeds fans they'll chew him up and spit him out, he could take them up next year, but if there not in the champions league the year after, they'll be protesting again, they love a good protest, inside 2 years he'd end up back at a club just like the one he's at now having to start all over again. but this time with egg all over his face
Re: And why not Bang on - and as Jay's said elsewhere can't really see Hill taking kindly to their idea of 'criticism' - if they aren't instantly top of the league there'll be carnage.
