Whilst I agree with your point, I checked the sportinglife website at ~1pm and nothing was on there. I'll know to look on the club's website next time. But advance warning that there might have been a problem would have been nice. I only had a 12 mile round trip inconvenience and overheard people talking in the courthouse car park, not a patch on anyone coming from the West Midlands.

BTW, radio 5-live were too busy combusting over the missed handshake to do any updates during the Man Utd Liverpool match as I was driving.

They didn't know until this morning that it had broken down again but hoped that the natural thaw would be enough but at the temperatures it went to last night the freeze was too deep and the sun couldn't get to part of the pitch. Frustrating but out of the clubs control.

I got the train into Barnsley at 12:00pm. I looked on my phone at 12:45 and the website confirmed the game was off. I didn't whine and whinge like a bitch. Easy.

I had a bath AND a shave for the match

And I'm not due either until the 26th! I wanted to smell nice at the match for barnsley66, jedi one, Jay & bigdave8322. But now I just feel cheated. Clean, but cheated.
I think I'll blame Don Rowing for my unnecessary cleanliness.
    Or Patrice Evra.
    Or Jim Iley.

    Agree

I was annoyed because I haven't had a saturday off since I got my new job until today, but I soon got over the match being off. 7 pints of Woodpecker helped.

Not only am I pissed but I'm just south of Bristol, so by the time I could get to Barnsley I'd be sober enough to realise the enormity of my mistake.

God no, I'd wimp out of that as soon as look at him.

From what I've heard I wouldn't be able to fit it in anyways.

    Match off, truth

Tonight I had the pleasure of dining with Mr Patrick Cryne, he told me that the heating had been turned on at the correct time with regards to the temperature and the ground conditions, BUT, the problems arose with the fact that the overnight tempertature dropped lower than forcast and certain areas of the pitch ( the ponty end ) froze up and due to the fact that, that part of the pitch faces north and did not get any sun on it, it did not thaw out. The under soil heating is ineffective under -6deg and last night it dropped a long way below that, the match was in effect playable until the ref made an inspection and decreed that the area in the ponty end was dangerous. The ground staff did place covers over that part of pitch and did use heaters to try and overcome the problem, to no avail. Now all you concpiriacy theorists can make of that what you will, but that is the truth, the fact that it was called off at such a late time is actually a testament to how hard the groundstaff worked to get the game on. Just as an aside, if you turn the undersoil heating on too early and keep it on too long then you damage the turf, the roots of the turf get scorched, the soil round the roots dries out ( even if the surface soil is moist ) the underground heat encourages leaf growth which at this time of year produces weak sward growth. Simples innit, but after all that I'll go with what that guy in the pub said about us being rubbish, cos it's easy innit, innit, innit etc.
