OK, Keef has far, far exceeded my expectations. Safety now assured, and when you look at Rangers and Portsmouth's shenanikins this week, then maybe the financial reality thing is pretty important. Now then..... what should the realistic level of expectation be for next season? Is to achieve safety and preserve our status again sufficient aim for next term? Should we have aims for better than that? Top half and/or a playoff place? Interested in your views, cause I'm trying to work out if this club is now going somewhere?
I can't make my mind up because we don't really know how the new financial rules will influence other teams. Personally would be happy with a consistent/entertaining top half finish.
We should buy top notch premier league players and pay them what ever they want and sit back and enjoy without any fear of punishment. Well isn't that what others do?
For every year we stay in this division be thankful, 8000 fans coming through the door just isn't enough.. I'd love us to keep on overachieving and finish mid table, andy Ritchie got it spot on and was sacked for it... We just aren't in any sort of position to think about promotion, if we happen to flirt with the play offs now and again fairs fair and if we are lucky to assemble a squad that can challenge for promotion in today's financial climate I'd be very suprised and we'd be very lucky
For me Safety will be a measure of success over the next few seasons with one eye as ever on progressing further. The financial reality of modern times will start to hit clubs across the divisions and it'll be a rocky few seasons for many but I reckon Barnsley will be well placed to make a bid for bigger things as clubs implode around them. Softly softly catchee monkey. There will come a time when clubs like Leicester won't be able to snatch our assets away in a vulgar stockpile. Momentum will then be with us.
Consistency position in league is dependant on so many more factors than just ourselves. I'm very happy with the way things are going. If this time next year we have a team playing consistenly to some of the higher levels we have achieved at times then that'll do me. Personally I think that will be the case. Keef & Flickers don't strike me as the sort to stand on their laurels
And that my friend is the best statement we have had on here for years!!! It seems to be OK for Hill to say it, but when Ritchie said it he was abused by the vast majority on here.
I'd put it as the absolute minimum should be to stay safely in the division The target should be top half - if we could be in playoff contention at easter next season I would over the moon But there are a couple of conditions - we shouldnt overstretch financially to do it - I think in the next couple of seasons as reality starts to close in on more sides than Portsmouth we could be well placed to capitalise - we also shouldnt be selling our players on the cheap - like we did with Haynes and I fear we did with Vas Te Also entertaining football should be a priority - we have had that frequently this season - more of the same next year please
My expectation for next season is the same as for all seasons.........Promotion And I wouldn't go to the WELL if I thought any different So top 2 next season but I will settle for top 6 with a play off final win
will always be twams with more money and its never going to be easy 15 games left Dont write the season off 60 points would be fine Midfield trio have gone but if anyone can make the best of a bad job its the Red Army theyve done it all season.
Think it takes a season for players to gell who have not played together.quality of football will improve under hill croft i'm sure.getting a uniformity showing results was happening but vaz Tee jumped ship, jacob got injured ,if he stayed and was'nt injured would have made a definate top half finish,if he would have gone ,money recieved would have given us a more substantial force financially to buy d drinkwater, this i think will be a far more improved side seen since the playoffs at wembley against ipswich. Just wish more former fans would have a positive thought on what is happening down at oakwell and come to a few matches. National press and media dont give us much positive publicity. take yesterdays win 2-0 won against former premier opposition.yes 3 subs they had no youth team on there bench ,there choice. but national press report all about portsmouths administration and very little about the match.how much does this encourage new fans. ok a little nervousness but we grew in composure, pity about david perkins out for 3 weeks at least.
Expectation or hope Yes of course we should always be aiming for promotion but I didnt expect us to get it this season - and I dont think many fans realistically expected us to get promotion this year... in fact a lot expected us to get relegated I dont think its realistic to expect promotion next year though we can certainly hope for it
Re: Expectation or hope The teams coming up no doubt be stronger than ones going down so I think it will be as tough and 12-18 be good position
but andy ritchie wasn't good enough to keep us up with a low budget. if he hadn't gone we would still be probably playing div 1 football now it would have taken us years if at all to get back. andy ritchie was a good man manager no doubt about that but he couldn't have done what hill has done as has been proven with subsequent clubs since leaving barnsley.imo
With our crowds and finances, ambition is in this order: Stay in the division Work hard Play nice football Beat our rivals Avoid relegation battle
Re: will always be twams with more money and its never going to be easy 15 games left I think our no. 1 priority is to ensure our management duo are with us next season, everything else is a bonus. Scarily thats in Don's hands.....tis a bit of a worry.
