Barnsley 2-0 Portsmouth: Daily Mirror match report

Dave Kitson has avoided a fine for his red card at Oakwell because Portsmouth are not paying him any wages to dock the cash from!
The veteran striker was dismissed in the 41st minute for committing a second bookable offence and although Pompey’s 10 men clung on until the dying stages, goals by Jim O’Brien and Matty Done won it for Barnsley.

But boss Michael Appleton concedes Kitson will not be punished for his dismissal as he has not been paid his wages for the past month due to *Portsmouth’s financial crisis.

He said: “The red card has cost us but when players are not being paid it is hard to fine them!”

Do not tell me that they are getting zero income. Endorsements and sponsorship deals will be paid to them privately no doubt. However i do hope the poor lambs are ok and that their coach journey home was comfortable and stress free.

We should have had a whip round to afford them a plane to get home like they are used to.

How much do they get fined? Surely he's got enough money in the bank to afford it
