I am not sure if it has been mentioned on here yet but Keef sez that we have offered a very good contract to Jacob, we are desperate for him to stay but he wants to "keep his options open". Bye then.

The first club to offer him more large brightly coloured woolly hats than us will get him.

Personally I think he is starting to take the pi55 a bit and I would be telling him to make his mind up. It feels like he is keeping our offer in his back pocket just in case nobody else gambles on him. We have shown him loyalty, patience and dedication and the first chance he has to show some back and he's basically just sticking his middle finger up at us.

    People blaming agents for everything

As if the players don't get a say. End of the day it's the players decision, agents just maximise the financial benefit of whatever decision the player makes. They do have free will.

They may have free will but when they believe their agent walks on water and **** petrol they seem to hang on every word they say and follow their advice without ever questioning it regardless of what experienced football people tell them.

Can't blame him. A short career football. Not saying he should just follow the money but if he makes a move that will be better for his career and improves his wages then you can't fault him. There are two flaws when people talk about loyalty. Firstly they're saying it as a fan and forgetting the player is an employee and very rarely a supporter of the club. And secondly how often do clubs show loyalty to players or managers. I'm not criticising that, but how many players down the years have suddenly found themselves out the door when their face doesn't fit anymore.

    Exactly.

He could've been in the Premiership now but he's got a nasty injury, might've hit home how short his career is.

We had a good result at weekend, so lets find something else to stress about.

This news is no different to what was said a couple of weeks ago AND it will probably still be the same up until the end of the season.

I don't think he's taking the pi55, he's keeping his options open, and who can blame him? If he hadn't got injured he would be gone by now on probably a 3 year contract at £10,000+ a week (= £1.5 million), regardless of whether he was in the first team or not.

If anything, the bad injury that he got will have focussed his mind on maximising his earning potential ASAP and to be honest, I'd be thinking exactly the same as him.

The only thing in BFC's favour is that he may have to sign a contract with us, to get playing again, and prove himself again, before anybody comes in for him, but if he does sign a new contract, I would expect it to have a release clause in it similar to Hammell's, because he won't want us putting a £3 million price tag on his head to keep him here for the next 2/3 years

    Quality post Ark.
Couldnt put it better than that.
I think we all want him to stay, but I may be in a minority by wishing him well in whatever he chooses next

Fingers crossed he stays! We've been a different team without him or Drinkwater

Im hoping Dawson plays tomorrow and hes just what we are missing.

He's supposed to be a box to box type so lets see!

Why wouldn't he wait until the summer? We aren't going to take away the contract offer because we'd lose him for free and other clubs may have an offer that is rewarding for him.

He said in his last interview that he would only move if it was right in terms of actually playing football. He believes he is good enough to play in the PL and wants to prove it - however sitting on the bench isn't going to help.

He'll wait til the summer, if the right offer comes in for him then he'll go. It wouldn't surprise me to see someone like Everton buy him and loan him to us for 12 months to regain that confidence/match fitness. Either way, I think he's deserved his chance to at least listen to offers without being called a Judas.

Short Career - don't get that one at all.

Is there some law of nature that prevents footballers working in another job after the age of 35????

It's not as though they don't have the money or the spare time to fund an education during their playing days. Arjan De Zeeuw managed it.

    W**k excuse.

Alan Sugar interviewed about Harry Rednap tax case ,more or less said the same thing, that most footballers haven't a clue whats in their contracts and just sign anything their agents and financial advisors put in front of them

I take the point and agree that they shouldn't earn enough to be able to retire at 35. But if someone offered you twice as much to go and work at a better organisation would you turn it down?
