I agree with you mate. I can see you aren't being negative. It wasn't a sparkling performance from Digby but he looked ready to be in there. On a pitch where there were plenty of players with PL experience he didn't look out of place. Can't ask for more than that.
I don't mean to be rude but you do seem to be a little on the 'half empty glass' side. I thought Digby was very good tonight he oozed confidence for one so young. His ability both on the ball and his positional sense belied his youth. Only one game but if he carries on we'll have a player.
Digby deserves credit for keeping going for the whole 90 minutes. However, he had little positive influence of the game. Most of his passes were safe but safe means mainly sideways or backwards and there was no crispness in his work. Others have pointed out that we missed out midfield for the most part in the second half but have not made the link to the performance of our midfield players. Many have criticised Dagnall, but failed to noted his work in supporting the players in the middle of the park. Of course, Digby is very young and will no doubt improve. However, in the only academy game I have seen this season (Newcastle), he showed a similar lack of ambition and range in his passing. As for those calling for him to play at Coventry. Personally, I think not.
Your lack of knowledge about reds players amazes me. He's not going to bomb forward, thats not Digbys game. HE plays in a 3 for the u18's and he's the dm in the 3. You say he's OK and not very good like 90% of the other peoples opinions i've read because he didn't play someone else's game. He doesn't need to and keith hill didn't want him to try and break forward, If barnsley lose ball n the middle with him or smith so far forward that leaves 3 on 1 barnsley player.
I was very impressed with him tonight. Definitely showed enough to merit further starts in the team. Thought he deserved MOTM too.
Thats what we said after the match ponty, he will not face another midfield better than that for the rest of the season. Give him some game time, he will improve and against a less experienced midfield he will look a lot better than tonight.
Your the one i think that got told not to write reports about about academy games and after reading that and witnessing the Newcastle game I'm 100% sure the club did the right thing and stop you spreading that rubbish. HE played very well against Newcastle and that negatively isn't needed at the u18 games.
Digby was excellent. He has a physical presence, can pass, was mobile. I'd like to see him get some serious game time. I hope he's on a long term deal.
There you go ladies & gentlemen the future manager of Barnsley FC Mr Phillip Hemsworth. Why should we tremble??
Sorry cannot agree. No evidence of pace or vision, and definitely not MOTM. Where does the physical presence come from? Sorry, not ready yet, but good luck to him and keep working. You never know.
Blimey, I'm sorry but I didn't see the same performance as you did. I thought he had a very good game as a youngster coming into the team and didn't look out of place. I do agree that he isn't the finished item yet but it was an encouraging start. Still it is all about opinions eh ?
My MotM too. I don't understand why some people are so critical. He's a homegrown lad, showed some passion and didn't back out of any challenges. He's a defensive midfielder so you're not gonna see him being the creative force. How often would you see Makelele play extravagant passes? Never, he was there to break up play, and give the simple ball to a more creative player. As certain others have said, nowhere near the finished article, yet still did enough for MotM for me - a great full debut for a lad just turned 17.
'Some people are so critical' Banks, Agnew, Eaden, Parkin, Morgan, Butterfield... most clubs 'big up' their youngsters that are produced. At Oakwell it seems to be a disadvantage.
Looks to me like he has the basics there Needs bringing on nice and steady, will learn from players like Michael Tonge.
