Anyone watch it on BBC4 last night? Documentary on the West Indian side of the 70's & 80's. Quality telly. Never realised they went 15 years unbeaten. Amazing.
watched a bit and it seemed batsmen were worried about what didnt happen. there was one batsman moaning about been hit on hip area. Just hit the ball then. I bet ali cook can count on one hand how many times hes been hit there. doesnt matter if your facing 95MPH Brett lee, milinga or 6ft 8 92MPH plus Finn. Hit the ball and it wont hit you.
Imagine facing Malcolm Marshall or Joel Garner on an uncovered pitch back in the day. Are you also refering to Brian Close chesting down bouncers from the famous West Indian quicks? Hmmmm.
Difference is, mate, they didn't have helmets, thigh pads, boxes, rib guards etc. So someone was throwing a ball at 90mph and they had no protection. Like to see Cook etc play with the confidence they do without any protection.
Completely clueless. Uncovered pitches, no restriction on number of bouncers per over, pretty much zero protection outside of pads, and over after over of 90mph plus, but still...
Marshall Garner Holding Bishop Walsh Ambrose Been some quick "quicks" during that time but then again hit the ball with the bat.
Not forgetting Andy Roberts , Colin Croft probably a couple more as well......... They were an awesome team, they had a great batting line up to go with it as well.
The West Indies team from the mid '70's Is the best cricket side I've ever seen, wonderfully entertaining.
