I had a season ticket from around 1984/85 onwards but can't really remember him towards the end of his first spell, l didnt attend all the games just a handful though but l know that King Ronnie returned only a year later at 34 but only played 5/6 games. Was he injured when he returned? he seemed to fall down the footballing pyramid quite dramatically then. Seems a bit strange to just lose it in so little time since the end of his first spell, l can't remember watching him during his second spell either but my dad promises me l was there!

Did he go to a Portugese team when he first left us?

He came back for the 85-6 season as a player coach with responsiblity for the Youth T

I also recall he did score a goal in his second spell but over time this has been awarded to Ian Walsh (I think). They both swang at the ball and made contact and agreed to share the goal afterwards. He was sacked by the club a matter of weeks into the season as a cost cutting excercise.

    As per usual

You're correct. He moved on to Stockport County.

in his second spell i seem to remember him missing two penalities in a row at oakwell. It made me laugh that after missing his 2nd penalty in front of ponty David Geddis reckond to kick glavin up the a**se as galvin knelt in penalty area wtth his head in his hands.

    Tell me Mr Indiana Jones

Do you remember the "joint" goal. It was into the Kop end and I thought it was Stuart Gray who was the co scorer but I guess not.

    Definitely Ian Walsh

But I thought, at the time, it was God who scored it. In my totally unbiased opinion, of course(!):D

Talking about missed penalties, what was the game when

Glav missed one when we were struggling in the League and he missed a crucial spot kick in the closing minutes. Bobby Collins was the manager and in the Press conference afterwards he said. "I couldn't look, I just sat there with my head in my hands waiting for the crowd to roar, I'm still waiting. He will never take a penalty for this club again".

Well thats the way I remember it anyway.

    Don't remember that

But I DO remember him missing one away at Rotherham on Easter Monday 1980 in a 1-1 draw. He did the same again in the September of the following season at Millmoor when we lost 2-0.

Unlike Ronnie you are SPOT on with that. Millmoor was such an unlucky ground for us.

Something like 40 years without a victory in the League there and then comes 1981-2. Banksy Hat-Trick and King Ronnie tap in at the Tivoli end.

The King Ronnie tap in was made by Stuart Barraclough..

Barra showed their hot property winger Tony 'Tiger' Townley how to work the flanks, Great game that was,

    Don't forget, though,

We beat them 1-0 in the F.A. Cup 2nd Round, December 1980 at Millmoor. Derrick Parker scored the only goal at the Railway End in the first half. I think it was that game when the songs about Ronnie Moore's hat & Rodney Fern's lack of hair were heard for the first time.

Derrick scored into the Tivoli as well. I know because I was behind the goal.

Surrounded by loads of Millers from school I was screaming inside when he scored but didn't move a muscle. That's probably why I'm still alive today

You're probably right as I usually talk a load of gibberish on these matters.

He scored with a brilliant volley

at home against Derby just after we signed Paul Futcher from Derby at the end of 84/5 season (won 5-1) must have been one of his last games, might be the last time I saw him play. I wouldn't say he looked any worse a player than in his first spell to be honest.

Apologies, I think that was at the end of his first spell.

    Re: Don't remember that

Sounds like King Ronnie spent the majority of his time with us missing penalties. I remember him as a half decent laiker. It's funny our your memory plays tricks on you.

    It always makes me smile

When I hear & read comments about an individual's goal scoring record needs adjusting downwards because of the amount of penalties included in it. Just because a penalty has been awarded doesn't mean it will be scored. The best player I've ever seen play for Barnsley (Glavin) missed a few, but that didn't make him any less of a player. In fact, some of the best players I've seen play for us have missed them, Barnard, Hignett, Redfearn, to name a few. I think Brian Howard was one of our few regular penalty takers I never saw miss one.
