As said, take your time planning and it's pretty easy. Here's mine, half finished that I did in 2004. It's about 4m x 4m. <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/441/image2kdi.jpg/'><img src='http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/4027/image2kdi.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/707/image3fj.jpg/'><img src='http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/7901/image3fj.jpg' border='0'/></a> <a target='_blank' title='ImageShack - Image And Video Hosting' href='http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/560/imageoio.jpg/'><img src='http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/1508/imageoio.jpg' border='0'/></a>
Just make sure you spend the majority of your time getting the foundation right and the ties on to your house right (if that's where you are putting it.) Laying the top boards is the easy bit, but it will be crap if you don't get it right from the start.
Aye, it meant I had to raise the level and create a step up from the patio door. Fortunately, I've never needed to access it. Decking planks are screwed on, so no real hardship if I ever do.
Depends For proper men like wizzio, clearly pretty easy. For 21st century mollycoddled internet monkeys like myself, an impossibility. I'd find it easier to eat the moon. At which end of the spectrum do you lie?
No but I laid some once Don't do it, you think its going to last forever but sadly you'll be back within a couple of years repairing/replacing bits. If I were you I'd get some nice slabs (expensive) and terrace them, I wish I'd done it. Also decking gets very slippy when wet in the winter time, you'll be forever falling on your backside.
Re: No but I laid some once Be wary of rats too, I was warned before I got mine and didn't listen! I think mine is down to the 100 tonnes of bird feed my neighbours still insist having up.
Re: Depends ha, the same end as you! Although I did ignore your advice and put some wallpaper up myself which was spot on!
If you are fastening it to the side of your house, you may wish to make sure it is BELOW the level of the damp course. There are planning regulations to satisfy also.
I'm like Frank Spencer but my dads **** hot with things like that. I found it quite easy to do, it does depend if you want a raised deck, rails etc..
