For me i think it it Ritchie just for the simple fact he got us out of the horribleness that is League 1 football.

Hoping this will change to Hill in a few seasons though.........

Andy Ritchie for getting us out of a **** league with what was on paper not a particularly strong team.

    Difficult to answer

Jim Iley - got me used to disappointment and selling our best players early on.

Allan Clarke - catalyst for making us more than a permanent 4th division club

Norman Hunter - best football ever played by a Barnsley team. First real experience of giant killings etc.

Mel Machin - despite 10 at the back his saving us from relegation and the season after provided some great (unintentional at times) games. Leicester in the FA Cup, Leeds away for example.

    Danny Wilson - Prem.

Dave Bassett - Wembley - when it was proper Wembley.

Andy Ritchie - got some warmth back into BFC - In my opinion treated shabbily by the powers that be - eternal shame on them

Keith Hill - coat, interviews, Vaz Te.

Few seasons mid table and then a couple of seasons just failing to get promotion from Division 4.

Clarke came in and got us promoted.

couldnt have put that better myself -though not sure Iley really counts other than for me he is the first manager I really remember

If I had to pick just one though it would be Clarke - his arrival really changed things - got us out of the 4th division with gates far higher than we get now and built the side that Hunter took on to better things still think that early 80's side with Glavin Banks Parker Aylott etc is the side I always will remember

Good call on Gudjon - got us into the play-off positions with the dictionary definition of a 'makeshift squad'

Allan Clarke when he first came as player/manager in 1978

No one has had such an immediate positive impact on our club since, we were completely rejuvenated. It was like a whirlwind.

Gudjon. Spent a day filming with him - really thoughtful, considered, studious bloke. We'd have gone a long way under him had he been given a fair crack at it.

He knew he was going to get injured

    Just saving us the heartbreak

Didn't Collins sign Paul Futcher and Stuart Gray? Or have I imagined that.
