he had a call from Peter Crouch yesterday. I thought he was joking at first but he insisted that Crouch phoned him to thank him for being a season ticket holder, that the players appreciate the support they get and that he hoped he'd renew again next season.

Apparently all the Stoke players are making calls to season ticket holders.

My mate's not daft, he knows the only reason it's happening is to sell season tickets - but he was really chuffed anyway and says that it made his day. He'd have renewed his season tickets anyway but says that this just guaranteed it.

Wouldn't this be a good idea for BFC? All the players making half a dozen calls every day? Would it make a difference to you?

I was a season ticket holder a few years back and must admit I was a bit disappointed when there was no contact from the club after I failed to renew. It was almost like it didn't matter to them. Stop the leaky bucket and you don't need to keep filling it up as fast!

It would depend who it was. If Andy Gray phoned me I wouldn't renew for example. If it was Keef then I would.

If Andy Gray or Chris Dagnall rang me I'd buy mine and one spare.

Not got the touch or footballing brain, though. Or goal scoring record.

    Stop getting on at him.

He's not well overpaid. That's two reasons to like him.

Championship experience and quality costs money.

No doubt Wath and West loves him.

    Ha, nice one.

No he will fall into the "pinching money, not trying" category.

A few minutes on the phone talking to some random player who's been forced to ring some fans by one of the higher ups would make no difference to me. I'm not one of those who get giddy over people in the public eye. They are just normal people at the end of the day. No need to be swooning over it. The thing that would make people buy a season ticket the most would be a competitive price and a competitive squad. I can't imagine many if any would be presuaded after a few minutes on the phone to spend hundreds on a ST they wouldn't have before the call.

If Andy Gray phoned me I'd ask if he was being offered a new contract. If he said "yes" I'd hang up. Then put my form in the bin.
