'I believe we've learnt this season that there's a right time to recruit players and a right time to keep hold of them'.

We've lost through injuries and departures six first team players. We already had one of the smallest squads in the division anyway, that relied on it's best XI being fit.

Drinkwater, Butterfield, Vaz Te, Jim O'Brien, Drinkwater and Perkins - all gone since January.

Davies was bang in form when played up front, with a midfield five that could get him service and also support the back four.

All our creativity vanished in January. No longer do teams have to worry about one or two of our players, allowing other players to shine, because those players just aren't there - it's too easy for them.

January is not the right time to be recruiting players, and Keith Hill to me suggests that as a football club we've learnt that. I would like to think this means that come the summer, we'll be braver and set ourselves up for the whole season, and be stronger in the transfer market if some of the bigger clubs come knocking for our players.

I don't know any team in England, small in comparison to their respective division, that could have coped with having the heart of the team wrenched out within the space of a month. That's what has happened to us, and despite the manager making some strange formation and team selections, surely that's par for the course when employing someone with little experience at this level, desperately trying to put points on the board to ensure we're safe with three games to go?

Reality check is needed by some.

Our defence isn't performing, but then neither is our midfield or strikeforce. When we had an in sync midfield and forward line, we weren't totally reliant on the defence like we are now. Yes they're making mistakes, but they must be under so much pressure knowing how difficult the six players in front of them are having it.

I'd add to that, that Keith Hill had a matter of weeks to get his new players in last summer, having been expecting to prepare for a season in league 1 with Rochdale. He went with what he knew, together with a couple of 'punts' that worked out.

This time out he's had a year to work it out and will be much the wiser for it. I'm sure he knows we're two or three quality players short of where we need to be, and I'm sure a couple of the lads he's brough through this year will step up and become important players.

I hope the budget will allow him to get what he needs, because it'll be very tough indeed next season if not, but I'm generally optimistic that with a few additions we can have some spells next season similar to our pre Xmas form. If there's a prospect of that, I'm happy enough, but it seems a lot of others aren't.

I'm worried that Keith Hill doesn't know the best positions for the players he's already got at the club nevermind any new players he brings in.

He hasn't got a clue where he wants to play McNulty, doesn't know what to do with Davies, isn't sure what position Golbourne is supposed to play in and hasn't even got a clue who is captain is.

Despite seeing these players in training every day he seems not to have any idea what his best team is and that is very worrying. In no previous season have I ever gone to Oakwell not knowing who will be playing from one week to the next.

Hmm, if he really has decided that January is the wrong time to sign players then I find it utterly bizarre that he continued to sign them in February and March.

He's had no choice, the squad has been desimated.

We've been seriously unlucky with injuries, and people have got to start taking that in to account.

I said if there's a prospect that we'll have spells next season where we show similar form to that we did before xmas, then i'm happy with that. I want to enjoy watching the Reds, with the knowledge that we'll have a go and compete more often than not, and until the last 6 weeks, I have.

I don't see how we can expect much more, and it's about far, far more than the manager.

We're not every team though are we? We don't have the budget to cope with injuries and departures to six first team players.

Not squad players, first team payers.

Last year we all complained that our season faded because we never replaced Hammill - we've lost a lot more than Adam Hammill this season!

No unluckier than any other side.

Andy Gray was sat on the bench and Dagnell was sent out on loan to accommodate a loan signing brought in recently.

Noble Lazerus was dropped to accommodate a loan signing.

Doyle was left out of the side for months to accommodate loan signings.

We have had the players at the club but the manager has chose to make loan signings instead. Injuries did not force this.

There you go again - we're not every other side though. We have a squad that can't cope with those kind of injuries.

Andy Gray - has admitted himself that he's benefited this season from being a bit part player. Performances would suggest this is true.

RNL - is he ready to be a first team player yet?

Doyle - are we sure his attitude was right? Performance away at Cardiff was terrible, and was then sent out on loan

Dagnall - sent out on loan for match sharpness which the manager admitted he was lacking. Didn't want to carry him in games that were important to us to allow him to get that sharpness.

So we signed a player that wasn't ready for the championship and then signed a young inexperienced player who wasnt ready for the championship to replace him? Brilliant.

RNL is ready yes, we've seen that ourselves when he's looked light years ahead of some we've brought in when he's played for the first team.

Doyle has looked more commited in the games i've seen than many of the players Hill has brought in to play the same position.

Andy Gray is payed a lot of money to play football for Barnsley. The suggestion that we need to bring in players to stop him from doing his well paid job is laughable.

    Fair enough, ignore the point.

Were you equally upset in mid December? Or do you agree that there has been some merit to parts of this season?

I'm taking a longer view on the subject and think we can do the same again next year, and because of that i'll sit tight while we perform like a sack of ****. I don't like it, but I think there a circumstances which force it upon us.

You evidently don't, which is fair enough, but I think it's short sighted and smacks of an excessive sense of entitlement for BFC.

    I don't understand that

We've sent out a player on loan to get match sharpness, who will then return from Bradford and not play a game for three months because it's the close season. How will that match sharpness help him then?

You do know Dagnall has signed for Bradford until the end of the season don't you?
