Pastures Lodge, Mexborough, Absolute Garbage. The Three Acres Emley. Spot On. India Gardens. Very Nice.
In the recent past... Frankie and Bennys at Stairfoot roundabout - Utter **** Frankie and Bennys at Sheffield and Wakefield - Pretty good. Glasshouse - Pretty good. Walnut Tree - Going downhill. Bluebell - Going downhill. The new Indian at Higham (where the Hermit Inn used to be) - Lovely food; absolutely tip top.
Norman at Monk Bretton - food was arse and to top it off staff were having a food fight and somebody's garlic mushroom in batter came flying past somebody's head at our table. Fountain at Ingbirchworth - not been in years but never ever failed to serve up toppermost quality.
Foxhouse - Holmfirth: Crap. Didn't go for a few years, went again recently and just as bad as ever. Blacksmiths Arms - Flockton: Beautiful food. 2-4-1 on meals all day everyday so good value. Huge choice of food on the menu alone and then there is a couple dozen more on the blackboards. Black Bull - Midgley: Really good grub in smart surroundings since it got a refurb last year. Can have a game of darts/pool while you wait too.
Beetson House, Cawthorne.....very poor Cow Shed in Wakefield very good Mantra Indian Wakefield excellent
Frankie and Bennys Stairfoot gone downhill dramatically in the last 12/18 months. Arkanns Indian at Crofton absolutely spot on food resonable prices friendly (maybe too friendly) staff, take your own beer in.
Never set foot in Pastures Lodge Three Acres the food is absolutely fantastic but last time we went we were left fuming at the service. The table next to us, I don't know if they were VIP's, regulars or what but the waiting staff had to walk past our table to get to them. Which they did, repeatedly. You'd try to get their attention and they'd completely ignore you and walk past to this other table to simper over them. I got the impression they'd have gleefully pushed my table over to get to whoever they were if it were in the way! When I finally got a waitress's attention and asked her for some water, someone at the other table called her over, she just shook her head at me and walked off mid-sentence. I never got the water. Fabulous food and probably a one-off but I won't hurry back. As for India Gardens - been twice and each time everyone in our party ordered something different. Both times we were all served bright orange slop that tasted identical! I'd take some convincing to try a third time. It's strange how people's experiences vary so widely because someone elsewhere in the thread slated Beatson House in Cathorne but we were bowled over when we went - steep but we left feeling you get what you pay for.
Worst carvery i have every had was at Nemmillerdam Inn at Newmillerdam.Wafer thin meat slices and veg tasted like it had been re heated in a microwave. Best carvery i have ever had was at Burntwood. Slightly outside the area can i advise against going to the Jamie Oliver Italian in Leeds.Shocking service and customer service and over rated over priced food.
scawsby mill - best, 2-4-1 on meals service always spot on, worst - bluebell went there for new years ever in 2010 food was shocking
Locker keep at Worksop is gash. It's lower on the food standards than McDonald's. Chestnut tree is ****. One about lacorum is Devine.
Anyone had a bite to eat at that groud level cafe at Red Brick Mill at Batley? That's nice and relaxing.
It was me regarding Beetson House, last November, the meat (lamb) that was served up was inedible, not once but twice we sent it back, the rest of the meal was decidedly average. We didn't pay for the main courses. First time I'd been after years of people telling me it was a top place. Had a good meal at Spencers Arms a few weeks after ,service a bit slow but food was spot on.
agree, Scawsby mills very good, also the green tree at Hatfield do a good carvery worst, the Meadows at Wombell, shocking food, shocking service
Tandoori Hut - Shocking we were a party of eight we sat down ordered the meal then a party of twelve came in after us ordered got served we were still waiting when we eventually got served we had to ask at least three time for the chapatis we ordered. When we went to complain at the end of the meal about the wait we were told it was our fault because we all ordered different meals! Old Mustard Pot - Brilliant the carvery is excellent at least 4 choices of roast and tons of veg Further afield La Piazza 2 at Bispham near Blackpool (will be going after the game) been going there pretty regularly since 1991 the service is quality and the waiters are a laugh the food is superb try the the Rack of Lamb Diavola rack covered with mustard and brown sugar.
