Got to say I was both pleased and a bit surprised with the reception McCann got when he went off. Perhaps it was partial recognition that he was a real threat to us today. I liked him as a player, but he seems to have got better since he left us - more positive intent. Always been capable on the ball but experience seems to have helped him to contribute more, more often from what I've seen of Peterborough. Was nice to see an ex-red get a decent reception.
Couldn't see the point of it myself. Don't think I have clapped an opposing player since Rammell came back with Wycombe. Grant McCann is definitely not worthy of an ovation.
I remember him take a lot of undue flack from a large selection of the supporters and I could never understand why. I always thought he was a good player, but we never gave him the games he needed to fully adjust to the pace of the game in the Championship. Scored a few good goals for us including two crackers away at Southampton and I rightly gave him a round of applause.
McCann was always a decent player for us and retained the ball well. The problem he had was that he was here at the same time as McPhail and Howard and that restricted his games. I can't remember any other time we've had three left leggers in that position all of whom were so similar. In my opinion, he'd walk back in our team now.
I gave him a clap, he always gave everything for us and that's all I ask from our players. Deserved reception for me.
Remember him scoring on his debut for us against Burnley on Boxing Day and getting us the 3 points - thats good enough for a standing ovation for me alone.
Wasn't it against Ipswich in a truly dire 1-0 win? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/6160986.stm
Really nice to see. So long as a player hasn't left in bad circumstances I'd always clap a former player
Me too and despite him not having the best of times here,he's only ever said good things about the fans and the club
Credit to him...............he's left Barnsley and gone on to have a decent club and international career..............sounds a decent bloke to me
Grant McCann was a loylal player that gave his all he deserved his applause. If you ask me we let him go far too soon and only to be replaced by Simon Davies rejects.
The applause that I gave him was mainly due to his attitude as a player since he left. He's been very complimentary of Barnsley and applauded us at London Road too. I did question whether there had ever been such a positive reaction for a player who had a fairly minimal impact in his time with us, but I think it was more of a case of his attitude and his personality. A very likeable footballer.
Mcphail left in the summer after the playoffs. Didn't play for us on the championship . I think it was togwell and Howard pre McCann
i was gutted when grant left, he lived just up the road from me in dodworth and i regurlarly got comp tickets off him 4 away games, i personally led the crusade 4 davey to be sacked when he left
I liked him as a player but like you I felt he lived in Howard's shadow. we certainly didn't see the best of him which was a shame because he has done well since moving on
Two of his best were away at Southampton in the game we won 3-2 with a goal apiece in injury time. Grant's first was from 25 yards past Kelvin Davies and his second was from 35 yards. No mean achievement, but especially against that keeper. Thought Grant sometimes lacked a bit of pace, but the best left foot outside the top flight.
I applauded him for being a decent player and the role he played getting us out of a ***** league, which i'll be forever thankful to any of that squad for achieving.
