Paul Walker on twitter has said Keith values Butts at 3m but knows we won't get anywhere near that.

Also said he wasn't aware that Newcastle and Butts had been in talks but would not be surprised

It truly surprises me how many fans don't rate Butterfield.

He can score from 30 yards either foot. He can take the ball from the back four while under pressure. He can pass long and creates chances for others.

It's no coincidence we've scored so few goals from midfield over the second half of the season, conceded so many, generally had less possession and created much less when we've had it. The midfield 3 of Drinkwater, Butterfield and Perkins was crucial in our early season form. Dawson could do a job like Drinkwater but we havent replaced the creativity and skill of Butterfield.

£2m, an absolute snip, recovering from injury or not.

I'm told that Barnsley's Jacob Butterfield has been in talks with Newcastle United over a move in the summer. More details as i get them

    Maybe theres something in it.

    Agree absolutely

The lad is quality and our loss of form is largely down to his injury.

I’d take no less than 4 million. At the going rate Sordell etc got for a similar fee.

    It’s the going rate.

It’s the attitude of I’d take half that what is wrong with Barnsley fans, and no he’s not spoilt. He maybe reads this forum and see’s the critism which comes with been one of our star players. Fans instantly turn on them for whatever reason and if he see’s any of the negativity towards him why would he stay?

He capable of playing in the prem, he’ll be comfortable in the prem.

And agree with all of what Dannywilsonslove child says.

Fans don’t know what they have until there gone. Then the next time they play at Oakwell are booed for been greedy or whatever.

If Jordan Slew (now unable to score at Stevenage) is worth £1.3m then Butterfield must be worth £10m.

Drinkwater imo was the biggest loss, as displayed in the Ipswich game when we dropped to bits when he went off.

But he's out of contract in 6 months so surely he is allowed to talk to other clubs now anyway?

What he is worth and what we should accept are two different questions. When I said that Newcastle would be daft to offer more than £1m I wasn't knocking Butterfield, just being realistic.

He is a gamble. You say he'd be comfortable in the Prem but you have no idea whether this would be true. He has only had one good half season in the Championship. I am not stating this as proof that he is not good enough, just not enough proof that he is definitely good enough.

He has a serious injury that could prove to have long term effects or be recurrent throughout his career.

He is out of contract in the summer. In the absence of an agreed fee, compensation will be set by tribunal in a process that seems to be far from transparent and predictable. Given our financial situation can we reasonably refuse £1m in the hope that a tribunal presented with limited evidence of the ability of a seriously injured player would set a fee above this? Sordell had 18 months left on his contract and I expect Watford don't operate under the same financial constraints as us so they were under much less pressure in this regard.

it says "UP TO" £2million.thats a totally different story matey

knowing how we negotiate stuff it will be summat like £50K up front and the rest if Newcastle win the Premiership, the FA cup, the Carling Cup and then onto europe and win that..and maybe also that Butterfield Captains England to win the World and Euro cups too.

I'm quite certain that a tribunal would award us £1.5m for a 21 year old captain of a Championship club.If Newcastle are prepared to offer us £2m to secure his signature before anyone else steps in so be it.You never know it might create a bidding war with other suitors. He will be a huge loss to BFC.

He is, but the quicker they agree a fee with us, the quicker they can tie up a deal and not let it get into a bidding war in terms of wages etc.

    It's entirely upto Butterfield, mind.

I don't think its the fans atitude that matters, more the incompetant businessmen at Oakwell who masquerade as our board who will most likely let him go for ten bob and a blackies egg who you need to worry about!!!

we'll never get to know how much we got for him, we never do, we'll just have to make it up, oh hold on a minute someone already as, silly me, 2 million it was then.

    Absolutely spot on

Butterfield has in my opinion been crucial to our season

That people do not seem to recognise this, and even seek to denigrate, is bewildering

His development this year has been remarkable, and if he is not inhibited by his injury he will be a regular in the Premiership
