Were BFC playing at allowing Dickie Bird 'backstage' yesterday?

AYE, it was obviously his fault we lost, because Dickie Bird did the team talk and picked the tactics. Dickie OUT!!!!!

I didn't refer to the scoreline or performance at all did I? I merely commented on the national embarrassment that is Dickie Bird being shown on the BBC in a 'backstage' area of Oakwell.

You are referring to the single most respected man in international cricket and he's one of ours. What exactly have you achieved with your own life that makes you so disrespectful? Dickie Bird is an absolute gentleman and has supported BFC for over 70 years. Show some respect you ignorant little git!

    whats up wi Dickie Bird

I cannot see owt much wrong with him at all. He is a world respected man in Cricket, he loves BFC and he has donated some cash too I believe. I am at a loss to understand what you have against the Guy.

National embarrassment? What the **** are you talking about?

The only embarrassment yesterday was on the pitch.

My mistake, I didn't mean that he is an embarrassment to the nation. I meant that he embarrasses Barnsley on national TV. Perhaps it is just me who dislikes him and feels he is embarrassing but i'm sure ive seen a LOT of people say the same on here in the past and hear dozens of groans and comments yesterday at Oakwell when his face appeared on the TV screens.

That's because the interviews are done on a cabled camera, rigged in the tunnel area near the sponsors boards for the pre & post-match bits with the managers. That's where Dickie was brought to for his half-time interview. He's considerably less of an embarassment than you are right now.

Yes there is a lot ofof people who feels the same. Also about Darren Gough or Michael Parkinson. Its this weird Barnsley thing where we have to dig out anyone who has a bit of success in their lives.

I am honestly surprised that we've not had a 'that Becky off Cora is a right bitch' thread. . .

Dickie Bird is a good, proud, down to earth Barnsley lad. The other two you mention are pratts, nothing to do with success they're just pratts. I still don't get why ST thinks Dickie being on tele is a bad thing.

Chegwin, Keith. He of Tiswas, ...Plays Pop, etc - your new role model. Actually, in his day he would make Keith Moon look like Gary Lineker (MOTD's on...) in a Tenants super fuelled lairy, wife beating, baseball bat wielding neighbour from hell sort of way.

It's not a weird Barnsley thing - every town and city does it. At least in Dickie Bird Barnsley has somebody who was genuinely good at his job, well-liked and generally popular. As I understand it he's a proper supporter too, isn't he?

It's not like they're dragging out a local xfactor failure every time they want a comment. And I'd rather have Barnsley's Dickie Bird than Norwich's Delia Smith or Albion's Frank Skinner and Adrian Chiles.

can only agree with this. I can see why people don't like Michael 'Reading' Parkinson or Darren 'Spurs/Leeds/whoever else' Gough but Dickie Bird is a staunch Barnsley supporter not to mention the single greatest umpire in cricket history both for his ability and his manner, I for one am proud he comes from Barnsley I am mystified as to why people wouldn't be.
