Four of us are looking at going somewhere at the end of July. We're thinking of Krakow so if anyone's been I'd be grateful for any opinions or alternative suggestions.

We're after some decent bars where you can you just have a laugh and keep yourself to yourself. We're not really bothered about clubs.

Failing that, I hear Kosovo is cheap. And I got glowing feedback from a mate that went to Chernobyl. I dont see much of him anymore though...

Now you're talking my language mate, Delirium Cafe and also Bier Circus (also in Brussels) are two of the best bars I've ever visited. And by the Christ was I zonked at the end of both evenings.

Always wondered why the former bothered stocking beers from around the world though, given there's inevitably so much of the deliciously strong and diverse indigenous stuff to choose from.

Two hours to go at work - could murder a Delirium Tremens right about now!

I'd recommend Krakow (although you really need to think about visiting Auschwitz if you go which very little can prepare you for). Went with my gf and did a fair bit of culture but there are plenty of places to eat and drink and its not a huge city to walk round.

If you want a bit of culture thrown in, I'd recommend Budapest. Stunning city and not yet been spoiled unlike Prague. Still pretty cheap too and think Dreher is the local tipple.

Brussels is a great city but i'd recommend going there for the christmas markets and it isnt cheap, though mort subite framboise is my favourite beer and theres a good little tour and tasting session of Gueze at Cantillon near the Eurostar.

We have considered Budapest but someone we know compared it to Shatislava which is the most boring city in Europe and it put me off a bit. I also thought with them being on the Euro it might be a bit more expensive.

How does Krakow compare to Prague pricewise??

I've been to Cracow 7 times and i'll be there again this year

It's is a great place for a group of lads to party. There are 100s of bars and pubs in a pretty small area, night clubs and bars all over the place. You must also try out the Jewish quarter late on a friday night... that is where the best party places are! DO NOT go to Auschwitz as the first thing you do, it will ruin your trip.... leave it for another type of trip! The price of beer is next to nothing and the girls are lovely..... get yersen there. 15 minute taxi from airport to Old Town!

I had my stag do in Riga and would happily go back again for another weekend.

I've never seen so many great looking women in one city too, as an added bonus.

Budapest murders Prague culturally and it depends what floats your boat. My gf still raves about the red wine there and hasn't tasted anything similar across Europe and we travel quite a bit. For a lads weekend I'd say Krakow because of the cheap beer and volume of places. Go where the locals go though and definitely head to the Jewish quarter where there are street food stalls in the summer months that the locals cook there own food at.

And agree with westie re Auschwitz. I think everyone should visit their once in their life, but I kid you not, it is truly horrific and I don't know anyone who's been who hasn't been shocked by it.

And polish food is pretty good as well.

Went to Rome last month and absolutely loved it and it wasn't that expensive as long as you avoided the tourist traps in front of monuments and the popular squares.

One of my lads went to Tallin with some mates last year ,thought it was great. Amsterdam is still a top place, but Krakow I've not heard a bad report about, thinking of going myself

Antwerp; great beer, beautiful city, language not a problem as most people speak English.
