Laser eye surgery

Been to opticians today for a contact lens check up and the optician pretty much said that the next step for me is a dog like David blunkets!

Well he didn't go that far but said my eyes were pretty piss poor.

I'm wondering if anyone as had laser eye surgery? I'm a bit worried about having it done to be honest. He said that my current sight even whilst wearing contacts isn't acceptable to drive!

 

My brother has had it done and his sight is bloody fantastic now. It didnt take long and no pain to call owt, well thats what he said anyway.

 

What was the clinic he went to?

 

It was in Manchester, that was where he was living at the time, about 2 years ago.
He said that he would do it again without thought!

 

Our lass had it done last year and her eye sight was really poor without glasses. She thinks it's the best thing she's had done and well worth the money. A girl at work had it done last year too and is also really pleased with the results.

 

Can you get me names of the clinics please, don't like idea of a white stick and a dog!

She had it done at Optical Express at Meadowhall. They did the initial consultation and the procedure. She went back for some after care but they also let her go into the shop in town for check ups.

 

How long is it guaranteed for? A know with age yours eyes do deteriorate but can they give you a rough idea how long you'll be able to go with having to were glasses or contacts again. Was your lass short or long sighted?

 

They told her they'd do it again for free if her eyes got worse within three years but they seemed confident she wouldn't deteriorate for years. Yes she was short-sighted.

 

There's two types

.......lazic and lazec..depending on the thickness of your cornea

One is fine, i think that is the lazic one, where you can drive the next day

The other one, which I had is horrible and frightening and you will be out of action for at least a week. For 3 days you will not be able to see the tele nevermind anything on it. So be very very prepared to be blind for 3 days. The first day can only be described as an nightmare. Once done you need a speedy return home to bed with a big supply of pain killers. Water streaming out of your eyes. But in saying that I would have it done again because once your eyes get better its great. Still need glasses for reading tho

On that summary a think a might get looking for a Labrador.

I've heard mixed reports on the surgery, I wear contacts but they keep telling me I'm over wearing them so lasering seems the best option all round to try and be able to see without specs or lenses.

I had the surgery done around three years ago in Leeds (Ultralase). My eyesight was damn near abysmal, and the price goes up dependant on the level of correctness, your eyesight requires.

Ultralase were fantastic - really friendly and made everything seamless.

The surgery itself was no where near as bad as I'd expected (or read) and it was all done in around 20 minutes. The worse part of the surgery, wasn't the actual laser (of which, I could smell burning) but right before, when they apply some kind of vice/suction cup to your eyeball, and it literally feels (for around 5 seconds) like your eye is being squeezed, and then it all goes black.

Afterwards, and I mean, straight afterwards, I could see much better - everything was pretty much blurry and my eyes were weeping, but I could see things that I wouldn't have had a prayer of seeing only 40 minutes previously. You pretty much just want to go home and sleep for a few hours, whilst applying drops and trying damn hard not to touch/rub your eyes (they do sting a little). You have to apply the drops like every three hours, for 24 hours - I then had a consultation the day after, just to make sure everything was alright. Same thing, keep applying drops for another 72 hours, then another consultation to make sure everything was alright. Same again, for one week, then another consultation. Then finally, for another three weeks (only one week more with the drops), and another consultation.

It cost me around £4000 for my surgery, but I can honestly say, it is one of the best investments I've ever made. I'd highly recommend it.

thereev had this done at jimmy's hospital, leeds approx 16 years ago........... eyesight still bang on and can quite honestly was the best £2000 i have EVER spent. Nowadays I am led to believe the results are instant where i had to wait for a few days and the sight gradually got better and better. Them days you had to go back in 6 months for the other eye doing but as i say best money spent EVER!

What did they laser it with 16 years ago? a lightsabre?

 

Bloody hell - what's your prescription if you don't mind me asking? I'm up to -3.75 now so contacts are fine for me.

Apparently Tiger Woods was -11 before he had surgery and was considered legally blind so it must be good!

No, you're getting confused with having cateracts removed!

i am afraid you are wrong again..... Jimmy's was one of the only places that did lasering in 1996 !
