That's not the case some people just think differently. There's nothing 'do gooding' about people getting upset at seeing horses dying. I can't watch that race as it makes me feel physically sick, can't help it's just the way i am. As I said before maybe they should try and modify the race to see if makes a diffence - less horses, fewer and lower jumps.

Even if they reduced it by 5 it would still be a lot of jumps. How many jumps are there in other races??

It's sad horses die they are my favourite animal. They are professionally trained for these races though and accidents do happen. The fences had been lowered for this year too.

the national has been made safer and safer over the years any more tweaking to the course to make it easier on the horses would belittle the event. 2 animals dying doing something they are born to do isnt any reason to end the race

Difference being, the people playing football have a choice and won't be shot if they break their leg.

I meant to type 200 horses, which would work out about right at 814 over 1860 days

I didn't know the fences had been lowered, that didn't work them. It's a shame

Would you compete in a race knowing there's a good chance you could die?

But plenty of horses don't get shot, thousands in fact, and they end up living the life of riley eating the horse equivalent of caviar, and sky digital in every stable.

That's your opinion and I have to respect that but I still feel incredibly upset that horses are dying like this.

If I owned a race horse I'd call it glue factory

So when a footballer dies it is acceptable because you like Football, but if a horse dies it is not acceptable because you dont like National Hunt racing? Is that what you mean then?

The fatalities are not accidents. They are due to an animal being asked to perform a physical feat it is not capable of. As much as a racehorse loves to run, they are being forced to do this and if you think that is justified I can argue til the cows come home over it. Kanecat is perfectly right about redressing the conditions this and other races are run, but they won't because it will limit the appeal in terms of gambling, which is why the gamblers are implicated in the deaths of those two horses. Jays slave analogy was right in the sense that the horses no choice and this is why they unseat their riders and were so nervous at the start, which I saw on the news.

What if a jockey had died? One day one will as they have in the past. You know the dangers when you get involved, same as boxing or motorsports. Thing is, a jockey won't go into lock-jaw if he breaks a limb.

I don't really have a strong opinion either way on this but you can't really compare footballers who willingly play the game with horses who have no choice.

See the post below Mark, a footballer doesn't have someone hitting him with a whip and forcing him into conditions that will endanger his life to satisfy a common vice.

Shame on the jockey who went ahead with the race after his horse unseated him. Knob head...

Ben, I could argue this all day long. ~"Someone on twitter" should understand that anyone who goes out kicking a football does it by their own freewill, just don't play on minefields and/or near the edge of cliffs.
