Re: More than I thought I know how you are feeling,. but Barnsley fans have gone through worse than this mate. I will tell you this though, if you dont get a season ticket and just go to a few selected matches, you will find yourself hardly going at all, because it becomes harder and harder to justify going to watch matches lke the second half of this season and you WILL stay away, its hard to be tempted back when you know that you are going to be disappointed . I think its 10 home defeats this season, Yes there has been a few good games, but I dont think its as many as some say, but I have seen far too many rubbish performances, rubbish tactics, rubbish substitutions, heard too many rubbish interviews and been told too many times that its not his fault, by the manager, that he has no money and the fans dont understand that its a work in progress,to be bothered about next season at the moment
Re: I don't think Carl Tiler was ordinary Tiler could have been a lot better if he had another season at the side of Futcher, he went to Forest a year early, in my opinion anyway.
Re: I don't think Carl Tiler was ordinary Times have changed, from the days when John Denis was in charge, if your not willing to pay over the odds in wages, players won't sign deals longer then 12 months and if they turn out to be good other teams will always blow you out of the water when you offer them a new deal 6 months into there contract, if we had gave a injury prone player 15 grand a week for a 4 year deal and he'd turned out like Gary O'Connor or Fw@nk Nobbley there would have been uproar on here when it came out what the board had done, so they did things the right way for a club like ours and left them self's open to other clubs nicking him for a song, but they had no choice in the matter unless they where to put the club at risk, they just can't do right for doing wrong
The transfer market is different these days, and the world of the agents make it much more difficult to hold out for higher transfer fees
Half of his time as Chairman pre-Bosman, half post Bosman came in to play in 1995 I believe. We got £4.5 million for Ward in the Bosman era. I don't think the current set-up would get that for Messi.
Some clubs seem to be able to get good money for their players though mate. When did Leeds get shafted over a tranfer fee? Or Sheffield Utd? Even S****horpe get more for players than we do!!
It's a fair point. We were unlucky/stupid with Hammill due to the release clause, but then maybe he wouldn't have signed without it? Who else has left on the cheap though? Leeds got a deal rising to £2 million for Howson, who was out of contract in the summer, but he's a regular England U21 International, and had captained the side for two and a half seasons. Vaz Te had come from obscurity to play well for three months, so is half a million a bad deal? With hindsight yes, but you would have probably struggled to get anyone other than Sam Allardyce to take the gamble.
Valid Maybe if we could rely on a decent crowd even with tickets being so cheap compaired to most clubs but we can't, also the club nearly went out of business giving people 3 year + contracts and no one wants to go back to those days, surely?
you just named 3 clubs there that are massively in debt due to over spending on wages, all 3 have been in league 1 in the last 4 years due to having ***** players on long contracts, and not being able to bring in new player due to having there hands tied, until they got some of the ***** off the books, them 3 clubs have been willing to pay over the odds to get players on longer contracts and its cost then in the long run, look at some of the players Leeds and Sheff Utd have been stuck with picking up massive wages because no-one else was willing to take them off there hands with the money they would have to pay them
I said they get good money for their players, not pay lots for them! So I am not sure that you are really on the same wavelength! Leeds sold Delph for about £6million, Howson for about £2 million, (who was in his last year of contract), Sheff Utd sold the 2 Kyles to Spurs(?) for about £4-5 million, Scunny have repeatedly sold strikers for a million plus,Sharp, Paterson etc. #Now tell me again how they dont? We sell to the first bidder for the first amount of money.
The reason that most of the players you just mentioned went for decent money is because them clubs had them on long contracts, the reason they had them on long contracts was because they throw money at them when they gave them contracts, it worked with the players that you mentioned but it also failed with quite a few Howard, & Bogdanovic spring to mind, and another reason why them players went for more then we get for players is because there better then anything we've had in the last 10 years
Another point i'd like to make is this, if we "SELL" 5'000 adult season tickets for next season, we would have to put each season ticket up by £100 to get what we got for Vaz Te, dear me this board would be in melt down if that happened there would be 500'000 posts moaning about it,
the money to run the club as to come from somewhere, what would you rather do sell a player, that as 6 month left on his contract, for half a million, or pay a extra £100 a season for your ticket ? for every person that would say they'd pay the extra they'd be double that wunt
Re: Half of his time as Chairman pre-Bosman, half post Dennis got 8 million for just three players. The current set up have sold our best three players of the last two sfyears for less than 1.5m after over ten years of trNsfer fees skyrocketing
