It's nowt to do with pressure, it's crapness. We're not losing games because we're under pressure we're losing games because we're crap. And we're crap because you have brought in a load of crap players. Dozens of 'em. Now stop going on about ******* pressure as if we're the only team that experiences it.

 

Thought it was a good interview to be honest. Didn't come across as whining to me.

 

Its more about playing the wrong players in the wrong system and seemingly having no idea how to change a game once behind.
Or maybe its because we sold Gerry Taggart, I dunno

I said he put the result down to pressure, which he did. And he does it most weeks.

But that isn't why we lost. We lost because we're not good enough. And we're not good enough because Keith Hill has filled the squad with sub standard players. Nothing to do with pressure.

It is fine having the players we have but try to play in such a way that makes the best of them.

It's pressure that made him leave his best striker on the bench and stick with Frank The Carthorse for 70 minutes and sub the MOM and leave limited Perkins on the bench.

Pressure can do funny things to a man.

I'm not sure how a post match interview with Hill in which he bemoans the players' crapness would help with morale at such as important stage of the season. Whilst I agree that the poor form is more do with a lack of ability than pressure, Hill isn't the first manager to back his players and attempt to deflect criticism.

Hill has to work with these players every day...motivate them, instruct them, organise them. It wouldn't benefit the players or the results on a Saturday if he suddenly laid into them for being crap. If it's a lack of effort then fair do's, the odd rocket wouldn't go amiss. But I think most fans accept that with the odd exception (West Ham) it's not been the effort that's been missing, it's simply ability.

Probably best not to read too much into interviews after disappointing displays. As Hill has said himself, he'll be judged by results. I'll prefer to judge him by that than the pre/post match waffle that most managers are guilty of. We've been terrible recently but there were glimpses of progress earlier in the season and ff he does keep us up this season he's done his job for me. If he does it next season he wants fecking knighting.

If we didn't do that when could we read into something? We have that many disapointing displays that it's just about the only time we can respond.

 

I fail to understand how filling our squad with poor players is doing a good job. I just don't get it.

We haven't a lot of money, but Hill has signed over 20 players. These players haven't signed on for free. Their agents haven't worked for free. Not all the clubs we've signed these players from have released these players for free. We have spent money. We weren't forced to sign these particular players. I've lost count of the times that people have argued that there are good quality players in the lower leagues, but we're sure as hell not signing them. You know this because you're as convinced as I am that we'll be relegated next season. It's almost nailed on because our squad is so poor. How is that doing a good job?

Without Butterfield and Vaz Te in the first half of the season we would have been long since relegated. Keith Hill inherited Butterfield and I'm starting to think we just had an amazing slice of good fortune in signing Vaz Te because the rest of the signings could just be anyone.

You're right that I shouldn't bother judging Keith Hill on what he says in his post match interviews, but if I started judging him on the results and performances then I really would get angry. He's just rubbish.

 

Ha, well that's true I suppose. I just don't think it's worth listening to player/manager interviews in general. You very rarely learn anything and it's only likely to rile you when he doesn't agree that the team were quite as crap as you thought.

The point is that there's always an agenda. Wenger is always blind, Ferguson always blames the ref, Sven would always bore you so much that you'd forget why you were pissed off in the first place. Managers will always defend their players because they need their support. Players will (generally) back the manager or fellow players because if they didn't they'd likely be bollocked.

I post my responses to how the team has performed, not to how the manager has reacted to how the team has performed. In fact, I don't even listen to interviews...i switch off radio sheffield after the game is finished like I fast forward interviews on Match of the Day. Maybe that's why I seem to rate Hill higher than most, i haven't been pissed off with his interviews.

 

Almost ashamed to say the thought of getting lucky has crossed my mind these past couple of months.

He dropped him on a number of occasions. And he remains the only senior player that Hill has publicly criticised, which he did on a number of occasions. Our best performance of the season when Vaz Te destroyed the opposition was home to Leeds, but Keith had actually dropped Vaz Te for the game. He only came on because of the injury to Butterfield. And let's not forget that Keith was proudly proclaiming that he hadn't offered Vaz Te a contract extension in late December.

Of course he then had the cheek to have a dig at Vaz Te when he signed for West Ham and happened to be on the bench for one game. He was out of the squad many times for Hill.

 

well when Jay has lost belief then I know its serious.

One the more optimistic and hopeful posters on here,and also one who give a good and long chance for things to come through.I know its getting seriously bad when Jay is as down as this.
